    With the Cambrian Steam running and the Black 5 to Blaneau Next Wednesday I am thinking making a trip to wales for a few days. Whilst checking out to see what else to fit in I logged on to the Talylyn website and it appears to recently have had a major overhaul and I mist say it is a big improvement =D>

    I agree. The Talyllyn Railways website is a big improvement. Hopefully I one day will visit.

    Wow, the new website looks fantastic!

    All you need now is a webcam (preferably a live streaming one similar to the ones on the West Somerset Railway - see http://www.wsr.org.uk/webcam1.htm - but failing that, one updated every 5 to 30 seconds would be ok), and you would have the perfect heritage railway website.

    I hope it is successful in helping to market the wonderful Talyllyn Railway - well done! =D>

    Yes - it is a great looking site; BUT you still can't join the Society or buy from the shop online!
    C'mon chaps, if the L&B can do it, why not Talyllyn?
    For those of us based abroad mail order with cheques is not a realistic option (esp if you don't have a UK bank a/c). But even for folk at home these days, the convenience of web-based ordering is so great, I know many friends who simply won't download a form, fill it in, write a cheque, find a stamp. walk to the pillar box - when they would buy/join if they can click a few times online!! After all most heritage railway shops take credit cards if you're there in person so it's not an added expense in that regard.
    I think all railway preservation sites need to move into 21st century commerce - and embrace online trading!

    Yup, I am very impressed by the new TR site. (It's good to see some of the material I originally wrote back in late 1994, when the TR was - to the best of my knowledge - the first heritage railway to have a web site, finally retired!)

    It is now based on a proper, modern CMS (Drupal 6) which has a plethora of add-on modules available for future use including things like shopping carts and all manner of other stuff. I know there are features for the web site that missed the cut for the initial release - I was working on the virtual tour of the line, but the Drupal module for this is still a work in progress at present.
