I assume you mean the ex Lymington units 1497/8. Seem to remeber they had both OTMR, and TPWS fitted as part of the safety case for using them after the end date for the Mk1 EMU fleet, they also had secondary door locking fitted at the same time. FGE did seal up some of the doors on their 312 fleet in later days. So in theory that could be an option, to reduce the cost of fitting SDL. Does 3417 have TPWS, and OTMR. If not the VEP would have to be sandwiched between the two CIG's if they could be returned to mainline condition

I dont think the Lymington units received OTMR, just TPWS - i think the same also applis to 3417. The 3CIG's were also fitted with CDL though there's been question marks over the design - fitting some cheap bolts to the top of the doors (secondary door looks) as found on other mainline Mk1's would be a low cost replacement.

If a shed pole is connected then the shoegear is not live.

Sadly 3417 will not be attending Swanage this year.

Why can't 3417 attend the Swanage gala?

Thanks for the info. I couldn't see the point in sending 3417 back to EG the other week.

I would have thought the Bluebell's need for a train to convey passengers over 3 days of revenue earning services is more than an adequate reason.

So what will happen to the unit now? Leaving the unit at EG will only allow the local vandals to use the unit has target practice again. Far better to keep the unit at Bomo or Eastleigh for safe keeping.

From my understanding it will be used for shuttles across the viaduct sometime around August (ish)

Except that 3417 will have to be berthed elsewhere during the next round of waste removal trains scheduled for June/July.
