Designed by Robert Riddles and built at Crewe being outshopped in May 1954 as the ultimate in express passenger steam locomotive design. I had only a short (8 year) operational span due in the main to poor steaming at high energy outputs. Am the only BR locomotive to be restored WITHOUT my original outside cylinders. Steaming issues fixed upon restoration.
Currently undergoing my second heavy overhaul in preservation at Tyseley.
