They will probably be sea salt and such like.

This is what Thomas Wolfe meant when he said ‘you can’t go home again’

That is terrible. Proper FR tickets should be printed by dot matrix.

And Scampi and Lemon nik naks will do for me.

I do think that the FR is missing a trick by not having a 1970s-80s vintage set or weekend. Upnor Castle on passenger trains. Maybe if/when Earl returns.

Was there a guard who sang the name of every station or am I imagining that?

I did mean the light ones yes, although didn't 35028 make it over the S&D even though MNs were barred?

Yes, but along with alcohol free beer, they seem to be missing the critical thing that is important to their success.

    Sea salt and balsamic vinegar!

Cherry Red is the one carriage livery missing at the moment. I do hope that when Mountaineer comes back - and hopefully she will be in line once WP is done - she comes back in green.

    With the headlamp :)

It does pain me that the alco missed its centenary. Especially as the hunslets had a whole gala in their honour.

It was 35011 on one of the specials before final closure so I don't think anyone cared by then.

There were three MNs recorded as travelling over the S&D, from which they were nominally barred. 35023 was the first when it traveled light engine from Broadstone to Templecombe on Sun 28/3/65 to be in position to work the return leg of a railtour to Waterloo. Next was 35011 on the LCGB railtour of Sat 1/1/66 which it worked through from Broadstone to Templecombe. Finally 35028 worked similarly from Broadstone to Templecombe on the RCTS special on Sun 6/3/66. I also think that 35011 ran LE from Broadstone to Templecombe on Sun 2/1/66 and 35028 ran LE from Templecombe to Broadstone on Sat 5/3/66.

As you can see they only worked over the southern part of the line and never ventured north of Templecombe.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know about 35028 so assumed the 35011 was the last. The line was WR by then, the Southern civil engineers were a bit more fussy.

    @Monkey Magic, @Hirn

There was, indeed, a guard who called out the names of the stations - but his voice was a rich and mellow baritone, not bass! The Festiniog made a video about the building of the diversion around the reservoir, and the opening to Dduallt, and the guard in question was featured in it.

. . . and a WC/BB is only authentic if it's slipping up the Somerset & Dorset heading for Masbury Summit . . . with the crew praying for a Black Five to give them a shove . . .

I don't think 35028 has ever been to Darlington...

Only time 35028 has been to Darlington was for the 1975 Cavalcade... having checked.
