I see that according to the latest Railway Herald (issue 227) that the SDR is selling 3803 (Offers around GBP350K) - is this a renewed effort to sell it or just the RH catching up on old news?

Would 3803 be powerful enough to haul 13 on the Paignton line? If so it would be a good addition to their stable....

It's a renewed effort to sell it, but the price has been dropped by about 250K I think.

It was offered to the P&D a few years ago and it fell through as they didn't want it, would be nice to see it on load 13 up Goodrington though. It's also quite interesting that all of the operational SDR locos have been out on their travels this year

350 K sounds quite reasonable to me for a working loco....

Agreed. I wonder if the price includes the "spare parts kit", i.e. 2873?

A loco which will be working for 6 more years too and which has performed very well on the SDR and on the GWR as well i believe. As far as I know this is still buried deep at the far end of the north end of the site at Buckfastleigh as it isn't a lot to it wouold anyone want it??

Maybe Nat Pres should buy it..
7 of us with £50k would do it.
then we'd have to take it on a tour of each of our lines :)

There's a number of railways that are short of steam locos and could make good use of this - E. Lancs, Churnet Valley spring immediately to mind, followed by some of the new generation lines that have little or no steam yet: Mid Norfolk, Weardale, Wensleydale etc, - so there shouldn't be a shortage of potential buyers but finance is likely to be the stumbling block. Unless a wealthy supporter of one of this type of line buys it I'd wager a mars bar it will go to one of the bigger outfits.
