Yes, I have video of several of these tours from around 1991 or 1992, at least one of which used 44932 on the Derby - Sheffield loop. I think I have some footage of her on "Steam On The Met." from the same time. Time to look in the archive, I think.

Yes, it was shedded inside the EMU shed at Strawberry Hill.

Can't remember the exact date but I think it was September 1974. Leeds - Sellafield - Leeds with 4472 out and 4771 booked back from Carnforth. 4771 was failed with a clinkered fire and 44932 which had been working the Steamtown
shuttles was commandeered at short notice and worked the train back to Leeds. Fantastic run with a very heavy load for a Black 5.

I remember having a footplate ride on the shuttles at Carnforth when it was green. Surely it would look nicer in maroon though... :smt077

Not to mention 5407 when it wore 'Furness Red' for a while. That really upset the purists :smt074

As someone who doesn't subscribe to the "Paint it BR Black" school of thought, I think that BR Green suits the loco well. But it would look even better in late LMS lined black with sans serif lettering.

But, as I have said before on another thread, it ain't my engine and I ain't paid for the paint so I can't ask! It'll just be nice to see the modified Swidon product back on the mainline!

Going back to an earler response to 44932, this loco was not one of the Carnforth allocation at the end of steam to escape the scrapyard.
It came from Carlisle Kingmoor as late as February 1969 after being bought from BR (by whom I no not).My interest in this loco stems from it being allocated to 10F Rosegrove from March 1966 to withdrawl in August 1968.
I have vague memories of it being in store in clean condition at the back of Rosegrove for some time when it was transferred from 16C (one of the Midland sheds) although talking to one or two firemen they don't seem to remember the loco and I have seen no photos of it working at Rosegrove and my visits in 1967 and 1968 do not record the loco.
It certainly was not at Rosegrove in the last few months of steam and seems to have been in store for some considerable time at either Carlisle Upperby or Kingmoor where it was officially withdrawn in August 1968
Can anyone shed any light on the above observations.

    Hello Mike,

There's a picture on page 25 of 'Steam For Scrap - The Complete Story', which shows a November 1967 view of BR Blue Class 25 D7640 (25290) on a freight, passing the 'scrap line' at Upperby. The line comprises now-preserved 75027 and 44932 (both filthy), 45262 and 41264 (rods off).

    Hope this helps :).

    Very Best Wishes,
    Bob.

44932 also reached Aylesbury in the mid-late '80's to attend an open day. I remember waiting on an overbridge for 60007 to head north over the then single track north of Princes Risborough with one of the Shakespeare trains of that time and being totally surprised by 44932 heading south E+C.

And again it operated some Aylesbury to Princes Risborough shuttles a coupkle of years later.

    Thanks Bristolian,

Narrows down to certain extent how long 44932 spent at Carlisle, at least from November 1967 (date of pic) to early 1969.
45262 also in the photo was yet another Rosegrove loco ! It too came from 16C at the same time at 44932 March 1966 and was withdrawn in August 1968 when in store at Kingmoor.
Perhaps just paper transfers and never came to Rosegrove ?

I understand this may upset a lot of people but I think that looks fantastic, BR Green it is then! \:D/ I don't see what is wrong with a bit of colour on the engines anyway!
