I'm still in disbelief if this test occured, Does anyone feel that way?

We know a few weeks back it was steam tested with a black 5 tender..
    It will need repairs
presumably it needs its NR gubbins fitted (I'm guessing ex 5972)... There's a bit of time..
theres no rush for it.. So a bit more time..
my guess is it'll be a few months behind Braunton.
i wouldn't be surprised if they held on to it until August and a double header with 5690...
there is precedent.. In Jan 2008 46115 appeared, but it didn't go public until summer.

Why would the NR gubbins come from 5972 - that would disqualify the Hall as a mainline runner and, WCR don't normally do heritage line running. I'd have thought it would acquire its own set. And here does Braunton enter into the equation? Different owner, different operating theatre most probably. Why would West Coast allow the boiler ticket on the Jubilee to tick away just because the West Country is entering traffic? I don't think your reasoning makes much sense!

Yes sorry...I'll explain my idle speculation..

5972 has done barely even a handful of runs in 4 years... Hardly a mainline regular spending most of the year at the NRM, except a spell on display in Hyde Park, it has been "in ticket" a good dozen years, Harry potter is finished... So I'm guessing a period of retirement, (who knows maybe it may go on vacation to somewhere warm), its a bit small and restricted for much mainline work (there are afterall 4 halls on the mainline, only 1 of which gets regular mainline work) why waste all that expensive NR kit on a barely used asset and buy another set for Galatea ?

Braunton has nothing to do with WCRC.. But it is ex works and running itself in.. It's not yet done a mainline trial and is process of GSMR fitting.... So it appears to be a couple of lessons more advanced in the class than Galatea, even if its at a different school..so if it takes a few months to get Braunton up.. Then my guess us it'll take a little longer still for Galatea.. As its not even pulled a train yet.

i'm betting on a summer return with 5690, who knows 45231 as well.. Afterall there's hardly nowt for it between now and summer that 44932, 46115 etc etc can't handle, the mainline steam scene is a bit subdued until summer so there's plenty of locos and not much work.

I often think of winter as the time to make the most progress on restoraions, repairs and yearly maintenace. That is a bunch of work. As far as Galatea, it is obvivious as to how much progress has been made on her restoration.

:frusty: :frusty: After 73 pages of "Galatea", there's no answer to that. Give David Smith a ring at WCRC, Carnforth.
Apologies for sounding a bit harsh but c'mon, you don't have to trawl through all 73 pages.

Brian, you could reduce it to 37 and a bit pages by going into your forum settings and changing it to 20 posts per page.... :behindsofa:

Another solution is that we could split all the 2013 posts into a new thread if that would help? Title to be "45699 Galatea 2013, will it happen?"

    What do others think?

Call it "Ralph's Microlight Spotting". Then we could get a few different subjects for wibbling.

Must be about time for another few pages on the livery? I've only been away for a week and I see the FS thread's now 7 pages longer and we're back on the number of chimneys

You're not going to duck it that easily - I spotted the guilty parties :spy: ;) Anyway, as far a Galatea's concerned, I heard that the Bahamas guys had done a deal with WCRC to test their double chimney :gossip:..... just add a Kylchap and it'll be a stealth Jub - ideal for sneaking out on a test run on the QT

You forgot the matt black livery.......but my new video camera has night vision, so unless it's as black as the inside of a coal sack, I'll get some shots.

I reckon they'll camouflage her as per the car manufacturer's do with their new models on test at MIRA down the road from us. Probably bolt on a GWR style 'stream-lining' kit and paint her in zebra stripes ;)

Being serious for a mo (if it's allowed :)) for those of us with a genuine interest in how locos are restored it would be interesting to know how certain problems were rectifiied. For example when 5699 was at TYS the top of the inside cylinder steam chest was thought to be wafer thin. Not much hope of any info though with WCR being so shy.
