"has" ... or "had"? Nowt that a bit of paint couldn't change. According to one photo, the safety value and whistle had been painted too.

As far as I remember, the lines of rivets denote the strengthening plates added inside Jubilee smokeboxes, which could be quarter round or half round.
It seems from photos that Leander has the half round plates, Kolhapur has none, and Bahamas has quarter round plates.

    Richard.

If anyone remembers that picture that appeared a few months back which brought all the WCR people out of the woodwork to get it removed, the smokebox looks the same as on the test run vids circulating now. Leander's boilerless chassis is also visible, so short of an engineering miracle, I'd say Galatea.

UKSteam.info thinks that it was 45699, and they usually have access to the correct information.

At last someone points out this possibility. All the comments about smokebox rivets are relevant to the identity of the boiler, and only the boiler. There's nothing new about swapping components, including boilers and tenders.

There's also nothing new about giving one loco another's identity, permanently or temporarily; but in this case what on earth would be the point of the deception?

So are we debating now that WCRC hooked the boiler off the green jubilee that was photted earlier in week and moved to a red loco for the test, it's getting more like Crewe up there every day!

I do hope that Galatea, whenever she finally emerges, has been properly sorted out and proves reliable in service. Just at the moment, WCRC are suffering rather too many faults and failures, the latest being 48151 indulging in yet more fire-starting on the York-Scarborough line.

'.....indulging In yet more fire starting...' Is this a regular occurrence for WCR or are you simply trying to blacken their name?

It's not the first time the 8F has set off fires. A couple on Monday, various other small and minor ones over the years, and also managing to set fire to Eskmeals viaduct nearly 5 years ago. No other loco seems to leave such a trail of burning vegetation in its wake compared to the 8F.

a few post back I was told to keep up and it was Galatea. Yet still people are questioning it. Well it aint Leander, perhaps its Alberta, perhaps Bahamas with a single chimney and you have all been fooled.

Its Galatea, Mr Smith, if he reads this forum must be laughing his head of reading all this.

I would guess Mr. Smith and all at Carnforth have had their good laugh and now think it's all just a tad pathetic. Can't fault 'em if they do.:tsk:

My comment about "fire starting" relates to 48151 only. I'm afraid the 8F has a bit of a reputation for starting lineside fires. Let's say she's got "previous"...

They don't appear to like enthusiasts at Carnforth but they do appear to like enthusiasts wallets to open when they play with their toys...

Afraid Steamage is right, saying 48151 has previous is not an attack on WCRC, but a statement of fact, presumably it's puzzling Carnforth as much as anyone why it keeps happening, they woulden't intentionally send out a loco in a condition that could possibly start a fire.

Is there any variation in blastpipe/draughting/spark arrestor between the 8F and a Black Five ?.
