Behind the times old chap. Well north of Peterborough now and showing two late at Tallington. There were two sets of times on RTT at one stage this morning, the cancelled set and the one that's current.

Observed on Giggleswick bank with a continuous steam roar from the lh cylinder. Did not sound at all healthy. Hopefully a simple fix.

Friend of a friend (yes I know!) reckons it's Galatea's boiler on Leander's chassis - better start checking those motion number stamps :)

As I said ages ago, should we rename this thread "Galander/Leatea" to avoid any confusion?

Who cares what boiler is resting on which frames. If the boiler is bolted to 45699's frames, then it is Galatea's boiler. The other boiler then becomes Leander's boiler. Don't get too het up on where a boiler came from, what's important is where it is.

But IF what daveannjon is saying is correct than the using the method above it is Leander not galatea that's currently running out of carnforth ??

The proof will be when we see the two loco's out together - hopefully very soon.

If both locos were owned by the same person/group I could see the possibility but how do you apportion costs and everything else associated with such an idea?

I'd be having some concerns about who you associate with!;)

    Don't forget it's 44932's tender as well.
Forget Galeander or Leatea.... Just call it Mongrel, but if you do at least let it be for the right reasons

I have on my laptop a picture of 45699 (in green assembled prior to its repaint red), behind it, clearly visible was the boilerless frames of Leander, including lined out frames and cylinders.

The front is Galatea, the rear is 44932.. I wouldn't care to guess how many different jubilees the motion and other bits are from ( I've heard 3 different ones mentioned), but even my wife this weekend guessed the centre driving wheel was the new one.

It is what it is, but it ain't Leander.

Just a thought, Galatea is famous for its yellow cab side stripe...

What chance the stripe being added to its Maroon cab side, thus keeping it up north for the summer :)

To be fair, if I operated two Jubilee's I would exchange parts and use them at their best to keep them running :) - in a way, Its probably preferable if your a main line operator to have two engines of the same class - the likelihood of them both being out of action once restored would be slim and a running engine keeps the pennies rolling in! I'm sure the respective owners wouldn't mind if it was for the best of their machines...

She looks fantastic on a run out, but that steam leak on the left side looks like it needs a spanner to it - not only because it looks wrong, but the noise from it alone would get right on my nerves!!

Don't forget that Leander and Galatea belong to different people. Although Leander is being worked on at Carnforth, AFAIK much of the work is being done by owner Chris Beet and his team, with only certain things being contracted out to WCRC. It seems to me unlikely that significant parts of Leander would be loaned to David Smith for use on Galatea.

Several other organisations are doing what you suggest - Ian Riley has 3 black fives, I think with the intention of always having 2 at work and one in the shops. There's the society based on the WSR with 2, or is it 3, Manors. Then, of course, there are the NYMR S15s, whose interwoven histories are really quite complex now!

Back to more immediate matters - Will Galatea work tomorrow's Fylde Coast Express, or will another loco deputise? If, as suggested elsewhere, 44932 is the rostered loco, and if, as mentioned above, 44932's tender is now maroon and hitched to 45699, which tender will 44932 use? 48151's?? Who will be able to tell?

44932 has been running with 45699s tender for a couple of years.
I understand the overhaul of 44932 was nearing completion but not the tender, 45699s tender was ready but not the loco... So swap to get 44932 in steam, now In 2013 45699 is ready with 44932's.

So BR Maroon... Red steps and tender chassis - 46203 and 46441, Black tender chassis - 48624 and 45699, who would have been right ?, had the livery been right in the first place.

With reference to the tenders currently being used by 44932 and 45699, are both tenders the same?. The Stanier tenders built for Jubilees differed from those built for Class 5s and 8Fs, they had 3500 Gallon capacity, and were shorter.
