Also those locos are not on display whilst in the overhaul queue with the current set up. Appreciating that they are privately owned and that Crewe (Diesel) Depot is an operational site, but I do wonder whether JH and LSL are missing a trick there to help publicise the Icons of Steam brand.

    Regards,

I see that Britannia has what appears to be a Westinghouse pump in front of the smokebox, but I don't recall ever seeing it attached to any other members of the class.

That makes me curious as to why 70000 has it - could someone here enlighten me about it?

Obvious in hindsight - thank you. But now I wonder why Oliver Cromwell doesn't have one in the same place.

Anyone know how she got to the SVR? Picture of her 'running in' light engine at Bewdley yesterday in Railway Herald No. 609 last night.

Thanks. Couldn't find a light engine move. Do you know if the boiler has been retubed etc. for a new 10 year ticket while she was out of service?

Remains to be seen how much of the collection moves to the old Hornby Factory and whether public display is intended...
Would be interested to know the full extent of the repair work done and a view on whether this was actually just 'wear and tear' or some other issue/ defect.

I understood that the repairs were to replace the roller bearings on the driving wheels. I think there were other repairs/modifications being done in conjunction with this to improve reliability and/or prevent any recurrence of the bearing problems.

Brits 42 and 44 were air braked for a while, the air pumps were mounted next to the smoke box and they weren't fitted with Smoke Deflectors.

70000 is LSL loco, and their policy is to have their locos air braked for operation with DBC and their own operations (there are some exceptions like 45231).
70013 when running on the mainline only ran with WCR who operate vac brakes.

70000 didn't have the Westinghouse pump during it's mainline period in the 90's looking at photos from then.

A shame they have put it where it can be seen. There are access issues with it between the frames. The best place would be in a recess in the back of the tender the same as Clan Line, the only downside being a slight loss in water capacity

Agreed. They did a pretty good job of making 46100's quite discrete.

46100 being another example of having an air pump, where 46115 does not for the same reasons.

I think you will find that the air pump was fitted by a previous owner.

    This update http://www.iconsofsteam.com/2018/01/bringing-back-britannia/
posted on the Icons of Steam Website in January gives a rough idea of what they have been attending to on 70000 at Crewe.
She has encountered a lot of problems during this boiler ticket mainly to do with the vibrations being felt through the footplate when she was travelling at speed.
She spent a long time sitting on jacks in the yard at Ropley when her driving wheels were first removed to look at this problem. She also under took 60mph testing on the MHR when they were returned after some work elsewhere. Unfortunately the vibration problem occurred again.
