I've lost the will to live!

I think we started discussing 92212 going back on the main line, and finished with MN speeds in 1967>.

Variety is the spice of life!

Yes, well I remember 84 on 15th Nov 1980 not long after leaving Tyseley.

There's a log of that run here..

Few other runs behind 92220 on the site.

As for revs/sec I would imagine the speed these wheels revolved were quite high in the records books, maybe not for the best reasons.. but they still revolved.

I don't who did that log, but everyone who timed it in the coach I was in agreed on 84 mph as the maximum. There was a lot of discussion actually because it was pitch dark and the discussion continued on the platform at Banbury with the crew. I didn't time it myself, but I do have a tape recording. Another thing about that log I notice, is that the exit from Tyseley was a lot quicker. It certainly wasn't easy. As soon as the engine cleared the overbridge it was opened up with a vengeance.

Doing the average speed calculations only supports a maximum of 81 mph as shown by Brian Basterfield in that log.

Still a great performance, especially as those were the days of 60 mph limits for main line steam!

I think that BR could and did waive the 60mph limit when it suited them to do so, hence the number of very fast runs recorded.
A case of if you are behind time a blind eye would be turned but if back on time 60 mph or else.

Latest information about 92212 is that the boiler has now been filled with water and a hydraulic test should take place this week or next week.

They would probably be better talking to PKP Cargo / WE.

No I do not currently volunteer
i remember asking the 9'fs on the mainline Question (round the time 92220 set off to Dinosaurland :smt016 ) @ '1964 and all that 'at NYMR
and without getting a definitive answer as to why exactly the flangeless drivers we're the problem,
This is also touched on in Brian Hollingworths quirky 'how to drive a steam loco.' book
A great shame as the accereleration they can put on a train is , i understand, phenomenal.
If one did arrive on the NYMR it could maybe get the dispensation to run to whitby...great to see one storming up to Goathland
Has a 9f been seen with the windcutters on GCR YET ?
    anyhow,
In reply to an earlier post, depite their coming off the same drawing board the 9F's dont have that much in common with the Cox /Riddles 2-8-2
that you could rebuild one into the other(different frames, , boiler dimensions etc).
Dont see any reason why you couldnt lose a driving wheel and put a trailing truck on a 9F other than its a waste of a good 9F.

As the tag suggests i should recommend investing the pennies, lottery winnings etc in a new build 2-8-2 instead, and being realistic the BR Standard that never was should prove a lot more usefull and versatile than a P2 (dont worry Mark, wont cancel the direct debit yet). Cruise at 60mph + not too heavy on the axles, decent adhesion, not bad acceleration, and lot of components common to other BR Standards, 'Hengist' in particular.

    and the finishing touch...
The Future Loud, the futures BR-Capprotti...

Old-type check rail is the same height as the running rail. New-type check rail stands proud. Once you know that, the rest is obvious.

Have people forgotten where 92212 was restored from Barry condition? It has re-visited us in more recent times too. And we've also had 92203.
