Looks like the green light has been given to a proposed miniature railway in Cromer.

Plans to run from the zoo to a location in the town centre.

If it’s going to act as a form of public transport, moving people from the zoo car park to close to the town centre, 7 1/4 inch seems a strange gauge.

Mmm. Personal opinion, no inside knowledge, but I suspect the notion of this railway becoming a form of public transport is a flight of fancy, perhaps on the part of the local media. The railway's website makes no mention of it. It appears to be going to run from a not especially easy to get to site to somewhere not exactly close to the town centre and quite away from the sea, a journey few would need to make.

Or maybe they felt they had to push the idea of public transport to get permission? I don't know.

This is not to knock the railway. As a bit of fun, a tourist attraction: great. Every town should have one. I support it and will visit. As "public transport" I really can't see it.

https://www.cromerlightrailway.co.uk (note that the photos are not at Cromer, they are at Ashmanhaugh, its predecessor).

It might serve to take people to the zoo rather than from it?
