We need your Help, like all restorations we need money and this appeal is no different. This unique Hunslet 0-6-0ST known as "Cunarder" will never run on the main line, so it does not have the same appeal as Tornado but it is a locomotive all the same and it needs your help, if it is to play a continuing roll in steam preservation. The reason for this appeal, is that we have learnt that we will now require new axle box crowns, this along with new horn guide bronzes and new thrust bronzes which we already aware of, has driven the cost up to 10k overall, something we were not prepared for. So if you can help it will be most appreciated.
We do have other items which can be sponsored:
    1. New Piston Rods. @ £300 each. 2 required
    2. New Piston Rings. @ £100 each. 4 required
    3. New Axle Box Crowns. @ £250 each. 6 required
    4. New Horn Guide Bronzes. @ £110 each. 12 required
    5. New Thrust Bronzes. @ £100 each. 6 required

When you look at the costs involved you will say that is not a lot of money but that does not take into account the machining costs especially for items 3, 4 & 5 and that is where most of the funds if raised will be going and those funds are critical if we are to have a rolling chassis for this years Great Dorset Steam Fair.

All monies greatly received and will allow us to progress quicker.

Good luck with this. Very much looking forward to seeing Cunarder back in her correct guise with the saddle tank. Perhaps you might like to bring her to Foxfield when she's done? :)

Should never have been altered in the first place IMO. Remember her in action at Quainton some 40 years ago so will be nice to see her again in her original format.

Many thanks for your support but what is your connection with the Foxfield Railway, because at this point in time we are open to offers. It had been originally planned to run Cunarder once she had been restored, at the Shillingstone Project, as they had shown a lot of interest not only in its restoration, at there site, but once restored they were going to need a small economical engine once they were up and running. If you check out our web site somersetanddorsetsteam, you will see all the progress we have made since last february 2012, when I finally moved it from South Coast Steam, where it had been stored for many years.

Both Avonside 1563 and the Melter it would be fair to say are heavily involved in restoration and operation at Foxfield

I think it would be factually correct to say that The Melter has never been to Foxfield in his life.

Hi The Melter, in answer to your question, Cunarder was originally owned by three people namely G.Mimms,G.Kingham and D.Brittan, who brought the loco back in the late sixties early seventies, during which time it travelled to numerious heritage railways. My involvement with this project started some four or five years ago, when I asked one of the owners[G.Mimms] the question what was going to happen with Cunarder, as it was unique in industrial terms. He explained that the original owners did not have, the funds to restore her and she was in storage at South Coast Steam @ Portland, until either a new owner or owners could be found or an injection of funds through increasing the exisiting owner base, the latter happened, myself along with J.Weaver, we put up some of the funds to get the restoration going, but I have found during the restoration process, she has had a hard life, with a lot of make do and mend, which why I have launched this appeal. But the real answer to your question, is that Cunarder is now in a Trust with two new co-owners plus the original three.

A big thank you because instead of just asking for "funds towards restoration of a unique loco", you have stated how many of which items are required and a cost for each of those. That may well encourage someone to donate £110 for a specific item.
