Especially if it's that deep note of the one on Dominion of New Zealand, enough th make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. a Caly hooter is still a better sound echoing round the Northern fells though.

Nice ... when they work properly, usually its an asthmatic screech that gets to the point of actually whistling several second later..

Flying Scotsman appears in the new BBC Christmas TV trailer. I guess this is the journey over the SVR which was filmed for BBC4's Slow TV series?

I hope we see both BBC4 programmes released on DVD at somepoint. The Return of the Flying Scotsman was very good and the upcoming one sounds interesting.

There are 2 Flying Scotsman related programmes on BBC 4 on back to back days over Christmas.

The first is James May: The Christmas Reassembler on 28th December at 9:00pm, which sees James May rebuild his Triang Flying Scotsman model (or trainset as the descriptions in the Radio Times are a bit misleading). I suspect this is the model he used in the Toy Stories programmes he did.

The second is Flying Scotsman from the Footplate on 29th December at 9:00pm, which is the show mentioned up thread where we get an hour long ride with 60103 along the SVR.

Here is another programme for Scotsman fans to look out for:
Monday 12th December 2016 at 4pm on Channel 4; Deal or No Deal on Tour. As Deal or No Deal has been axed the Series is finishing with some special episodes. The first episode on 12th December was filmed on board a train hauled by 60103 Flying Scotsman along the East Lancashire Railway.

Mods - Why not simply rename this thread "Flying Scotsman on tour" as I presume this will be the case for the next couple of years - 3 or 4 heritage line visits and a season of short distance main line runs.

Possibly because this thread has got too unwieldy.
It's been going on since 2010 with 6,250 entries I believe.

Thread title changed to now reflect more general matters about the locomotive.

Thank You. In response to buzby2 noter that the large number of postings simply reflects the amount of interest that the loco generates - is that a bad thing ?

... Rather less than Brexit, a long way behind beer and as for the trials and tribulations of a heritage railway supporters' group in the South West - long disappeared up the road into the distance.

Still - more popular than the football, so be grateful for small mercies ;)

Not strictly a Scotsman question, but related: I watched the 1968 documentary about the London-Edinburgh run last night. Is the footage of the scrapyards Barry? I tried to catch numbers, but couldn't make any out. I thought I saw either 35018 or 35028 at one point, both of which escaped Barry, so I presume it is.
