It is well worth a visit but check the opning times before you make a trip. It's not that far from the airport so you can even make a day trip

If you're willing to make a visit for it you could go to Darmstadt if you were to hire a car, I don't remember the public transport details

Be warned. Frankfurt (Hahn) is about as close to Frankfurt as Birmingham is to London. You need to get to Frankfurt am Main (the main airport). Not sure where Easyjet flies to..

Ryanair fly to Hahn but don't think Easyjet fly to any airport handy enough. Lufthansa fly out of LHR and others fly out of Birmingham
To Fankfurt am Main. Not the cheapest of flights either.

    Hello,

Yepp. Basically, trains operate the first Sunday of every month except for August (!). In June and September trains operate the second weekend of the month but not the first Sunday. These are 2009 dates.

Public transport to the museum at Kranichstein is easy: Tram 5 from the main station to the other terminus, walk straight on across the level crossing and turn right into the first road after the crossing and you will be there.

    Both operations are highly recommended!

    Kind regards

    Christoph

    Easyjet to Koln

    Suburban Rail to Koln HBH

ICE to Frankfurt HBH and leave the cars trailing in your wake alongside the E35 autobann 3

    Tram to Feldbann

Also still a Rabbit hauled suburban service from Frankfurt.

Plenty of good musuems and preserved rail in this area if you make a long weekend of it and get cheaper hotel rooms.

Transport system as it should be and not the mess we have over here.

    Hello,
As a frequent visitor to the Frankfurter Feldbahn Museum (ffm) I commend their very comprehensive website, complete with full operating dates and times. http://www.feldbahn-ffm.de/index.htm
The museum is readily and economically reached via Ryanair's flights to Frankfurt Hahn (HHN). Take the hourly bus for €12.00 each way run by Bohr from HHN to Frankfurt Main Station (Hbf)

"Vom Hauptbahnhof mit der Straßenbahn 17 bis zur Endhaltestelle „Rebstockbad“,
dort Umsteigen in den Bus 50 bis zur Haltestelle „Feldbahnmuseum“.

From the Hbf take tram 17 to the end station, Rebstockbad. There change to bus 50 and get off at Feldbahnmuseum. Or you can walk the 750m along the Am Römerhof street to the museum entrance.

On July 5th they have a "Summer Session" and 12 + 13th September they are running an "Old-Timer" weekend.
    Have fun,
    David Mummery
