december 2007. just like any other morning in december it was cold, frosty, and an excuse to stand around a fire doing nothing. myself and other cleaners at bewdley were waiting for 5164 to move off the pit to kidderminster so we could go to breakfast. we noticed that for nearly all morning there had been 3 men in their 40's and 50's stood on the end of platform 2/3. they werent doing any harm, just soaking up the winter atmosphere and taking photos. after we washed our hands, we heard the signal drop followed by a long whistle from 45110. as it rounded the curve at bewdley south box, we watched it aproach bewdley platform 1. as we turned our heads, the 3 men were still there, cameras in hand, bouncing up and down like yoyos. it was the most funniest thing you could ever imagine and even funnier to see the look on the faces of all the parents in the carriages. they were in the same spot all day and every time they saw an engine they got really excited. wot a laugh....

Not anoraks, and not a "funny" story, but one that makes you smile all the same.

I was waiting at Kingsway with SRRL #24 on the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway one Tuesday afternoon, and a group of Downs sufferers were evidently having their afternoon out by the seaside. They were leaning over the fence watching me prep "24" for the journey to Lakeside (without me knowing). After prepping I waited patiently looking back to the guard; when I (finally) got "Right Away", I pulled hard on the whistle chain, prompting the watchers to jump and (almost literally) fall about laughing and waving. When I realised what I'd done I smiled and waved at them, 'popping' the whistle a few times for their benefit. It was nice to see them enjoy the spectacle and I tried to make it all the more so.

    Cheers,

i think you hav missed the point. you may have seen sum 'downs suferers" as you quoted but the 3 men i saw were perfectly ok. i can argue that they are ok because another user on this forum spoke to them and they said that the santas are thier favourite time of year to do "TRAIN SPOTTING" on the svr because there is a lot of loco movements in the timetable. plus the fact that they had notepads and wearing anoraks.

hopefully you get the picture now!
