Is there any real proof of this Stanier 2-6-4t remaining there ?
I would have thought a full locomotive would have been taken the bits by the bean counters and weighed in regardless of location ?.. I mean why leave it when it was worth something ?

Fowler 2-6-4T. I reckon that the archive of the local Hendon paper at the time would prove or disprove this rumour.

Are there still bits of 3817 on a footpath route in Stoke on Trent, I remember driving past the smokebox and chimney many years ago.
Also there was a sculpture at York University made out of bits of 8F which I last saw around 1997.

This was the loco derailed in the fiming of 'The Password is Courage' and it was reportedly cut up in situ at the end of filming. Its a bit bizarre to imagine it being left lying there whilst a motorway was built over it!

I seem to recall that its the 'P' class, with just 2 large tubes. By some accounts, it went thro' Swindon, and was never steamed, as by that time, the run-down was in full flow. A boiler inspector was much impressed by its overall condition.

    Regards,
    Ian

According to the Rail UK website, 42325 was cut up on 30/04/1962.

I hope nobody makes an attempt to retrieve the chimney from 3817 - it's a fibreglass replica. The original was acquired for use on 2859 at Llangollen many years ago in return for us providing a replica. There is still a 2-row superheater header in the smokebox.

i heard a rumour that when bombardier transportation was demolished in doncaster ?that an old guy who had worked there in the 60s had said a large amount of locomotive spares were just buried as well as some small scrap shunting locos as the value of scrap was so low that it wasnt worth scrapping ?

Is it Sheerness where a load of MN/WC/BoB rods support the dockside?

... and the azimuth bearings were turret bearings from a scrapped battleship ... but I believe that the Castle pony wheels were replaced some years ago and went to the GWS who found that they were unfit for re-use.

Then there's a Furness Railway 0-6-0 200ft down a mine... Might be a little rusty but would be fascinating what modern ultrasound might find... Thought there might be a tender top from similar at a farm in Foulness...

There's supposed to be a Midland locomotive under Dandry Mire at Hawes Junction (Garsdale), where it ran off the end of the turntable road. Now THAT I'd love to see!

As far as I know, the KWVR's 57xx, 5775, still carries a Dean Goods boiler.

One of the bogie wheelsets on 45596 Bahamas is from an LNWR Claughton 4-6-0.

There's the remains of a Quarry Hunslet on one of the levels in Dinorwic Slate Mine, reputed to be completely inaccessible.

This was investigated in one of the magazines some years back and all that was there was the remains of a chimney.
Is this the one that was recovered by the Launceston railway and has been restored? There was also the remains of a deWinton 0-4-0VB at Pen-yr-Orsedd (?) until quite recently

I'm pretty certain the one at Dinorwic was Alice which was eventually recovered.

There is supposed to be a loco buried at one of the slate quarries round Moel Tryfan, and also rumours of a WW1 perol locol hidden away somewhere in the same area. Having noted how thorough the local scrap guys are, I doubt either would be easy to locate or recover!

I have the RH droplink from DB 38 2530 (Prussian P8) acquired at Bw Tübingen in 1973. It's one of the most useful tools in my garage!

I also have several LMS-type whistles (ex-WD 2-8-0s) courtesy of Alber Draper.
