I plan on attending the Llangollen railways spring steam gala in April.

Does anyone know any info such as any visiting locomotive's, home fleet and gala theme?

I believe it is to be a home fleet gala. With the return of 3802 being part of it. But it's been a while since I was last informed of anything so that might have changed.

Visitors to this gala will be among the first to be able to photograph trains heading up to Berwyn from Llangollen from our new viewing gallery (the pavement on the A5). This is due to the efforts of our wonderful tree-cutting gang, who have cleared several hundred yards of trees on the embankment between the railway & the A5. They have also worked in other locations around Berwyn tunnel & Garth y Dwr.
In the loco works last weekend 3802 was well advanced, with the boiler in the frames & its cladding on.

    Bob.

3802 did a test run last Sunday (25th Feb) when it attached to the back of 1pm and 3.10pm service trains, acting s a banking engine.

Some footage taken by one of the MPD volunteers can be seen here:

With little over 3 weeks to go before this event, is there any further detail published anywhere? I’ve had a look at the railway’s website but can’t even find the flyer which is posted earlier in this thread? A loco list would be great if anyone can help?

Thanks for the information. I’m in the area so I’ll pop in for one of the days.

Although i am still going, i have to say im disappointed with this STEAM gala hosting diesel locomotives as their main services with a pretty pathetic timetable.

Well the event is commemorating the end of BR steam 50 years ago and diesels were around at that time period. So it makes sense to me and I looked at the timetable. There are more steams services than diesel and there are four steam locomotives compared two diesels. So there is plenty to keep people happy and I don't see how the diesels are the main services. It looks a great timetable to me.

Does anyone know whether named services (with headboards) will be a feature of this gala? I’ll need to take my more cumbersome camera & equipment if there are some tasty re creations to capture!

This thread certainly died a death long before the gala! I went on the Saturday which had surprisingly very nice weather, timetable was a little on the quiet side but there was a nice mix of trains, a few shots:

Not heard anything about whether any serious damage was done to either of the locos, or the stock, by the 'heavy shunt' to the last train from Llangollen on Sunday.
