    Can anyone explain this?
    I was turfing out some old paperwork and came across 2 Newspaper clippings from I think January 1975.
    They both reported the movement of a German Locomotive weighing 135 tons being moved from Hull to Carnforth. Possibly by Sunters or Wynns.

    The first clipping had a photo of the loco reportedly on route through HOLTBY then HAXBY and WIGGINGTON heading for THIRSK.

    The second clipping from a different paper shows the same loco on the same trailer crossing the Pennines by the WOODHEAD Pass between Sheffield and Manchester.

    That route seems very roundabout even allowing for the fact that the M62 was probably not open at the time between Hull and Ferrybridge.
    York ring roads A1237 and A64 not open either.

    The route through HOLTBY then HAXBY and WIGGINGTON was probably to skirt York and head for the strongest upstream crossing of the OUSE river system most likely at Thirsk.
    Wouldn't it have been possible to use the A59 or A66 ?

    Sounds like the 01.10 Pacific 01 1104.
    Of course, it's gone back the other way now.

    Still a few German engines in the UK that haven't gone back yet....
