Gentlemen of the Royal Engineers and men of other Regiments

Next month the British Army disbands the last of the railway operating troops, ending a tradition that dates back to the Crimea. If you served in Royal Engineers (Tn), RCT or RLC Railway Squadrons or Movcon (regulars or reserves), and might be interested in "getting some in" again within a robust Mil. Rly culture (you will know what the Deer's Hut and Ansbach mean), could you pm me here or email me at militarytrain2012@gmail.com. To paraphrase a legendary Officer of Engineers from the Great War- Your Trade Needs You.

    Many thanks

    Neil

Ubique was the motto of the Royal Engineers, who operated Longmoor until 1965, when the railway operators were transferred to the then-new Royal Corps of Transport, whose less heroic motto was Nil sine labore. Four years latter RCT shut the LMR, moving the railway training role to British Army of the Rhine, Germany. Most military railwaymen (and that is who we are seeking to talk to) still regard themselves as Sappers, and a cut above the rest of RCT, whom they regarded as mere lorry drivers. It is not just the Big Four who have cap badge rivalry...
