    I wonder who bought this:

    https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22793/lot/205/

Michael Bailey (in his book Loco Motion, 2014) notes that there is no evidence to verify the loco's origins.

    Cheers

Interesting to note that she was at the "Century of Progress" exhibition in Chicago in 1933. She may have met Royal Scot!

I hope she has gone to a good home.

The history on the Bonhams site seems to indicate that it is c19th in the main. Cannot imagine that a replica would have been built in that century?

I spoke to Michael Bailey just before the auction and it's certainly not a replica, and does indeed have its origins in the 1830s - he said to me at the time that it was more likely to be Braithwaite & Milner. We'd very much like to know who bought it too.

I've been following the sale on the U.S. based forum RYPN since the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry first announced its 'clear out'. There are many pages of 'discussion' but the question of who purchased 'Mississippi' seems to be a closely guarded secret. Personally I thought $220k wasn't unreasonable for a complete loco of this age and rarity.

No, we thought it was a good price too, we just hadn't got it spare at the time

Would the NRM have bid if the money had been available?
