During the considerable number of years that I taught, most of the children with "interesting" names loathed them and used another. Occasionally a supply or cover teacher would use the given name and provoke a serious disturbance. Children should be named in a manner that preserves their dignity.

Whilst at my junior school ( a few years ago now). I never noticed one of the girls initials until I started reading through this thread.
    Olivia. Victoria. Sian. Boyce.

Either a strange coincidence or something more sinister

Both my children (son + daughter) have initials LMS,
the deal with the wife was i pick the initials and she picks the names.
on my sons 4th birthday my daughter then 6 asked why the train set had her initials on it.
    they eventually had one each.

I have been 'blessed' with an 'interesting' middle name which caused all sorts of mickey taking at school, for years I tried to hide it. Now in Italy they address all envelopes with your full name so it haunts me on every bill and bank statement. I swore that to take my revenge I would give my kids really rotten names, I was talked out of it and our three have normal names.

A great friend wanted to call his daughter Ophelia until his wife sussed out that along with the surname Cox it might cause the poor girl some stress..

:tape: TOBY ??? :faint:, that's got nowt to do with railways, c'mon, between you you can do better than that. But as some folks have said, nothing silly, the child will not thank you in later life as I have found out  . I gave our daughter a middle name, Athene, no reason, I just thought it was nice. She never tired of letting me know what she thought of it.
A little TRUE tale, when I was a small child there was a family living in our street and their surname was Green. They called one of their daughters Theresa.

I don't know if my middle name trumps yours ilvaporista, but it's 'Gwalcherfen'. I am reliably informed (by my mother, haha) that it is Breton, the Celtic language of Britanny, but I can never remember what it actually means. I am suspicious that it's actually gobbledegook told to my parents by some prankster when my mum was pregnant, but it makes for a wonderful talking point, and I was always odd enough in school to carry it off.

It also makes me extremely easy to find on facebook!

Gwalcherfen' and Guthlac. I MUST try remember these for future use. :peace: I don't have a middle name, we were poor, we couldn't afford one. Of course I have been known by various names ALL of them very derogatory. :thumb:

My son, aged about 8, asked why I sometimes called my daughter Joby. I explained it was because her names were Joanna Briony, but that as his were Benjamin Mark, I wouldn't call him Berk. He looked at me, a Roger Oliver, and said 'So you'd be Rover, then!' One nil to him.
