Hoping to make my first visit in a week or two, is it worth the trek and what else should I not miss in the area?

I'd highly recommend a visit to the NNR. I believe steam services only operate until the end of October though. It may not be the longest line but the stations, especially Weybourne, are gems, the scenery is lovely, and some locomotives and rolling stock that you can't see anywhere else (Though at this time of year I am not sure how much will be tucked away in the sheds for winter. I don't belive the Quads have left the carriage sheds this year). Heading west along the Norfolk coast for about 18 miles will get you to the Wells & Walsingham, the Bure Valley is nearby too. Bressingham and MNR are in the area as well. Not sure about opening times/time tables for any of these though.

I know there are quite a few venues around that part of the world, I shall only have time to viisit one after the NNR, which would be best do you think?

Well each one is a little bit different so would come down to personal preference.

The following are just my opinions

The Wells and Walsingham has a quaint charm, but also open carriages that may be a bit chilly this time of year.

Bure Valley has a longer ride, fully enclosed carriages, but more tourist than heritage, everything there is fairly new.

Have never visited MNR, but I think out of summer it is predominately diesel.

Bressingham has comprehensive collection of everything steam powered, and four lines of different gauges, but not sure what would be running this time of year. It has been a while since I visited, but I think you pay an entrance fee, then additional fees if you want to ride on the trains.

On the big railway I'd recommend a trip on the Wherry lines, to Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Semaphores, swing bridges, level crossings with crossing keepers and class 37's on selected services. Rather nice to see how much of the old railway still survives in 2017.
