A Central Wales Explorer has been added on the 5th April and the Heart of Wales on the 12th April now starts from Slough and runs Northbound rather than Southbound over the Central Wales line.

5th July Coast to Coast, if it runs as advertised, Runcorn - Northwich, contains a rare bit of track, the curve from WCML to the CLC. Not sure when this was last used for a steam hauled tour....

If RTC manage to run most of these Nigel Dobbing deserves to be applauded. There are plenty that will have me digging deep into my pockets. It is unfortunate that the usual errors are still to be found in the publicity.

    Tell me about it!

As for motive power in the Valleys, the rumour mill has the Riley stud of fives in the picture.

Speaking to my South Walian compatriots over a mobile telephonic device resembling a brick and stating the obvious, Sunday was always going to be the best day for such a trip to run due to the reduced service by ATW.

2 of them are likely to be in Fort William.

Maybe only one when 5212 is ready. Jacobite current rumour is 62005, 61264 plus 5212 when ready. Maybe more work south of the border for the 2 air braked 5s?

I see the return leg of the Scottish Lowlander is advertised as travelling via Polmont and Cowlairs to join the south western at Barrhead when there is no direct route which would enable this.

All in all it looks a very good selection of tours and no doubt I will travel on a few of them. It is just things like this which will continue to raise doubts on whether what is advertised will be delivered.

34067 in the Valleys has got me very excited. I think I'll have to make a mega weekend of it and hitch-hike from Crewe to Bristol...

Not the obvious choice for a Valleys trip but must be a first for a Bulleid.

It is possible via Cowlairs, Springburn, Stepps, Coatbridge Central, Kirkwood, Baillieston, Carmyle then take the curve to Crossmyloof. It's 'around the houses', but the eastern sections of it have been done before in recent years if memory serves. However, it does add a fair bit of mileage onto the route in order to thread around Glasgow now the direct link between Gorbals and Crossmyloof is no longer in existence. Its still a good trip whatever happens; though if it runs as planned, that's 562.5 miles of steam in one day.

Apparently also possible, more simply, via Falkirk Grahamston to Coatbridge.

"We leave Edinburgh Waverley, hauled by No. 60009, and head west through Haymarket and Polmont to Falkirk Grahamston. We continue with the same steam locomotive as the original train as we take the the route through Coatbridge, Barrhead and on to the Glasgow & South Western main line through Kirkconnel, Dumfries and Gretna to Carlisle."
