We had one go past work last week, which surprised me. Not that many leaves off the trees yet in Anglia.

Just leaves on line is a fallacy, it's any vegetation close to the lineside that starts to decompose and becomes volatile. The mechanism also includes microbes eating the various decomposition materials. They exude their guts including the enzymes onto this material until it is low enough viscosity to suck back in and digest it. Enzymes are basically chemical scissors and generally quite slimy materials hence add to the problem. Thankfully we humans keep our microbes and enzymes in our gut and deal with digestion there, average human has about 2/3 Kgs of friendly bacteria in their gut.
I'm the chemist who came up with, and perfected, the chemical mixture which dissolves/removes the bacteria/microbes/enzymes quickly without affecting the local flora and fauna, approved by RTC at Doncaster when it was still open as a satellite of Derby.
The 'season' varies in length according to the conditions prevailing each Autumn, frost effectively 'kills' the requirement as the microbes go back into corporeal egg form for protection until next year. We have had Autumn go through winter into next spring in the past, and the microbes start again early without much break (good for business!)
It's all made up here in our factory at Burnley and spread across the Country. Heavy prolonged season of rain also washes a substantive rail head quite well and often doesn't require treatment as a result, especially towards the end of the season in December.
Hope that's of interest and not bored the pants of you all :D !

Just received a RTC summary of its Christmas offerings where I see that the Lindum Fayre has a change of route.

The Ealing start was no great hardship as Finsbury Park is just as good a pu/sd as KGX (arguably better) and the trip was going around the Hertford Loop. That promised new track northbound for me.

Now bizarrely, it's going in and out of KGX via Potters Bar northbound on the outward and via the Hertford Loop on the return. I say bizarre as that means Potters Bar passengers can't get on and off at their station. More to the point I don't get the flyover at Alexandra Palace so that's no new track for me and therefore I won't be travelling.

Given that the original route was quite sensible and good for returning the stock to Southall I wonder what is going on?

Whereas SD's run to Lincoln the day before is shown as starting from Ealing and going via Hertford both ways:

Ah, my bad. Hadn't tuned in to the fact that there are two trips on consecutive days and thought that the RTC trip was the one that originally went from Ealing. Thanks for putting me straight on that.

So maybe Cinderella will go to the Ball after all. :)

Be fun finding a gap in all those Elizabeth Line trains on a weekday morning at E.Bdy to board a tour of slam door stock.

Has the Blackpool Illumination’s tour been cancelled on the 5th of November due to the strike or is it just sold out as it’s no longer showing on the RTC website ?

Sadly it’s been cancelled due to a lack of bookings.

I am tempted by this but will it run without a DL ? Not needed for turning but will leaf fall still apply?

Sometimes taken for shunting since Lincoln can be very busy with additional trains while the market is on . In the past the return has been later due to the additional services.

The one I did 3 years ago had a 5 hour layover in Lincoln, but had a number of additional trains and had separate queues for each charter.

There have been many similar occasions, especially when steam (SD particularly) used to pick up at Clapham Junction's p5 in the peak (outbound). Not a place and time for prevarication!

Different for the York trip on November 26 based on an RTC email received this afternoon.

"Our train will be hauled by a diesel locomotive from London as far as Leicester on the outward journey, with 46233 Duchess of Sutherland tucked in behind the diesel at the front. From Leicester, Duchess of Sutherland takes over at the front of the train and will haul us for the rest of the outward journey to York and then all the way back to London."
