    Hats off to Carnforth and RTC for pulling this one off given the task involved!
    Tangmere has from my understanding either, :-
    1) received a newly cast cylinder & crosshead
    2) received a reused cylinder removed from 34073
    3) received a stitch repair to the damaged cylinder casting

    Each of these tasks is not to be underestimated in the time taken!

    That was my most likely option but given the state of 34073, I think removing / boring / refitting is a commendable task. I assume they used the crosshead & piston from 34073 that differed from the one that was on 34067?

    Not quite true, Ralph. You need the diesel on the back to provide ETH to the train to both warm the stock thruogh and ensure that all the electrics are working as they should. That can't be done if the diesel is ahead of the steam loco.

    That is a great image, good glint on the casing and the only visible coaches through the steam are Mk1's, what is not to like.

    So many parts currently on 34067, originated from 34073, Carnforth might as well renumber the loco as 34073 for a while, with its squadron number plates in recognition of what 73 has donated to 67, plus it will be something different, it's not like 10a haven't done that before with other locos.
