Happy memories - We did the CPR route in 1978 - This is the CPR train transferred into VIA Rail and working the old CNR route - No Lake Superior, No Thunder Bay, No Morant's Curve, No Spiral Tunnels - but a splendid journey nevertheless.

    Highly Recommended

Agree with the recommendation , It just has to be on the CPR route -- that s why it was called the Canadian -- guess I m biased being an ex CPR employee , and did the route from Toronto to Vancouver in 1975 complete with stainless consist & F units in CPR colours - marvelous .

    Cheers Richard

In 2005 we Rocky Mountaineered it to Jasper, Canadian to Winnipeg, up to Churchill Bay and back, then back on the Canadian to Toronto, where after a few days we carried on to Montreal and then Halifax.

Coast to Coast to Coast by Rail, absolutely magic!

As suggested the Rocky Mountaineer still does the CPR route. In 2002 we did the Skeena Jasper to Prince George to Prince Rupert, back to Prince George, then down to Vancouver on the last of the BCR RDC railcars (they finished Sept.2002), 14 hours of a wonderful trip. Did The BCR Starlight Coast Diner one evening. Finally Rocky Mountaineer back to Calgary (2 days, stop over in Revelstoke so its all in daylight). It doesn't seem like nearly ten years ago for my big 5-0, wonderful trip. Big 6-0 next year, working on another trip!!

It was my first trip to Canada, certainly would like to go back and do some of the Rocky Mountaineer stuff, and Churchill to spot some polar bears...

The thought of 3 days on a train back in 1978 was quite daunting but CP Toronto to Vancouver was way up in the unforgetable holidays. Sitting in the Dome Car with the silver of the carriage and the scenery layed before you was just stunning.
We were a mixed band of people ranging from our group of down to earth Mancunians through to the Oh! so posh lady who took her own creamcrakers so she had her own food for the journey (could't eat those burger things)and wanted to know, on arrival at Medicine Hat, "where are the red Indians, coming out to meet us" !!!
We have video of the trip, taken on the last of the sound cines so I will find it and down load it in the next few days.
