Are there any news updates on the Clan ? The website has been quiet lately after a burst of activity in the Summer.

 

It appears to be quiet, but this is because we are waiting delivery of the parts currently on order. As soon as there is any positive news it will be posted both on our website and here.

 

It may appear quiet, but like a graceful swan gliding over the water we are working madly behind the scenes. Not only are we waiting for parts but there is a lot more essential work going on. Nothing that can be released yet but as soon as it can be released you'll see it on the website and on here

As a matter of interest, what does one become a member of if one becomes a member? The application form states that "I wish to become a supporter of the Clan Project" which is a bit vague. The annual report on the CC site states that the directors are the guarantors which could be taken as implying that the ordinary membership are not guarantors i.e. not members of the company.

You become a member of the Standard Steam Locomotive Company Ltd. "THE CLAN PROJECT" is the trading / brand name.
Each member is limited to £1 liability should the company fold. I would like to point out that the company has NO debt and hopes to keep it that way!

You become a member of 'The Standard Steam Locomotive Company', which is the parent body of the 'Clan Project'. It is this organization which holds its AGM's at which you can vote. By joining this Company you are supporting the 'Clan Project', actively, so we look forward to having you on-board, huochemi.
The principal aim of the SSLC is to construct the Clan, after that it has other aims regarding other standards which were not existent or even dreamed of at the time SSLC was born. However, it is impractical at this stage to start changing names as it involves legal and other expense with Charity Commission and Companies House, money which needs to be spent on the project you will understand.
Every member has 1 vote and is liable to the sum of £1 if the Company goes bust.
I have not read the CC website but have a copy of the SSLC paperwork in front of me.

They still have a container 'of bits' at Shillingstone. Unfortunately they wanted to move it out at the same time as we had track being delivered - we await a new date.

 

What? another one ? cant be much left to do apart from the small matter of some wheels and a boiler..

 

An update at last! Despite the seemingly quiet period we have been busy behind the scenes. On the engineering front the Trailing Keep Feet castings are now being machined at S&E of Scunthorpe. This will be followed by the bread basket frame stretcher casting. The bread basket (so named as it looks like one of those old fashioned bread baskets you used to see at bakers) sits at the rear of the main frames and also holds the steam brake cylinder.

Tenders (no pun intended) have also been put out for the frame assembly during 2015. This will start with a temporary assembly for the members and press followed by the final assembly of the frames. Processes are being written up and approval has been received from our CB (Wayne Jones & Partners) for a couple of changes required for mainline running.

Expect to see more updates in the coming weeks. Now is a great time to join the project and get involved and several frame components are still looking for grateful contributors!

As a charity and as a duty of care to our members we must put such large contracts out to tender. There are now quite a few places capable of rebuilds and new builds and the situation is improving all the time.
