They were test fitting the new throat plate on Thursday, so things are getting there slowly. Only a case of riveting it on, fitting a couple of stays, hydraulicing and steam testing it. Easy!!!

    Iain,

Are you not going to bother putting it back in the frames & piping it up then ?

That won't take long at all Bob. Well, compared to the loco we've just started stripping for a boiler lift! Who said standard tanks were user friendly!

Is this because of more problematic stays?

Any more news on how bad 80072's boiler problems are? And am I right in thinking 5199 is now back in service?

There are several hundred stays to replace on 80072's boiler. The boiler is presently being prepared for lifting , which involves removal of the tanks & cab plus a multitude of pipework.
As for 5199 they're working on the piston valves , but the rest of it appears to be finished. It's scheduled to work the Santa trains in a few weeks time.

Is there any more news on the Guest Loco for the Winter, or has this been cancelled with 5199's sudden progression?

Tanks are staying on, or at least that was the plan.

As discussed when you guys were down at Swanage, its certainly possible to lift a Standard Tank's boiler with the tanks in place. And, by equal measure, just as possible to put it back in again!

Oh well. So that should mean 5199 running for the Winter Warmer event?
Any more details for this event at present?

All being well yes. The plan is to have it running during the santas, but all based on running in and any issues arising as usual. Details for the winter warmer will be posted in the relevent topic when available.

A little update. 80072's boiler was lifted out the frames last week. And 5199 made its first moves in steam yesterday after its 10 yearly overhaul.

Thanks, do the engines get adorned with suitably festive regalia?

Usually just a Santa Special headboard. Nothing too extravagant.

Terrific news, I've missed the old Girl. Is she Black or Green at the moment?
