OMG! Even preserved line steam now gets a diesel on the back. The end of the world is nigh!

Just a big thank you to both of yesterday's specials for giving it a bit of oomph through Colton Junction - it looked fab!

Just trying to recreate the Big Railway scene - even if a few decades beyond their normal period.

Pretty sure I remarked about this in the RTC White Rose thread I think it was, yesterday.
But the post seems to have disappeared, could any of the mods advise please?

I don't wish to upset you, but I think that the KWVR have had some form of diesel on the back throughout their Santa operations - about 45 years (used to be the EE prototype shunter)! Certainly, we have always run the Grosmont Santas with a diesel on the back on the NYMR - it enables the train to venture into the centre section between Goathland and Levisham without having to go right through, which would be too long a journey. Somewhere, I have a nice shot of D7029 with a large key in the side and teeth stuck on to the headcode panel!

So, you could say it is mainline steam that is copying Santa operations! (Oh yes it is).

The MHR also have diesel bankers for the Santa's (although the Class 37 suffered a problem during the first weekend and 92212 operated on it's own:eek:).
We even had a diesel banker and haulage on last years Christmas dining train with the steam loco 31806 being removed from the train at one point. So a faithful ML Steam recreation on the MHR!!;)
On a more serious note it's a good job they are there. On previous MHR Christmas Dining trains some years ago the track conditions have become very poor in the cold weather with both 41312 and 73096 slipping to a stand on Medstead bank.
