That's good news. Be good to get the locos under cover.

  3. That's great news. Kidderminster Town is a superb station and on my visit there earlier this year we were made to feel very welcome indeed. All power to their elbows.

  4. Awweeee some people do like them. I'm not one of them but they were a part of our past, love em or hate em.

I think I'll be the latter somehow! :) I suppose we need something to pull the maintenence trains though, so a shed can't be all bad...

If you have to do a simple shunt at silly o'clock what you prefer to do? Spend hours getting steam up or just press engine start, do your shunt and get the job done? :) Great news about the diesel depot, as said on here they are part of our past and the folks that look after them deserve decent facilitys to do their job. Not much fun trying to play trains in the wind and rain!

The "switch on and go" diesels are also useful as "thunderbirds" on the odd occasion a steam loco acts awkward, and it does happen! At least you can keep the service going and keep your customers happy.

The diesel shunters tend to draw the ECS out of Kidderminster carriage shed. I guess trying to do that with a steam loco would see the prompt arrival of the cavalry from the local fire station!

Steam can just go over the threshold to collect or replace a set. If you want stock from the back then you need the gronk for the reason you suggest.

Due to over-running engineering works, namely the replacement of water pipes under the line at Trimpley, there will be a split service on Saturday 14th February. The DMU will operate Kidderminster to Bewdley, and a two loco steam service will operate Bridgnorth to Highley. Steam loco 1501 will be providing footplate rides at KDR.
The Valentines dining train on Saturday evening will run, and should be the first full-line train.
The Sunday service should be back to normal.

Unfortunately not, same story as today for Sunday and Monday with services (hopefully) returning to normal on Tuesday.

Worksite only handed back to the SVR at 3pm Saturday, and more work than originally anticipated is required to reinstate the permanent way and signal cabling.

The site described to me as a "quagmire".

    From Facebook:

"Amey, Severn Trent contractors handed back the site to the Severn Valley Railway at 3pm on Saturday 14th February.

P Way and Signalling teams have put all effort in to try and open the Railway as soon as possible but now we have the site back and can see its condition it will take the teams longer than originally anticipated to build up the formation and lay track.

To give our colleagues time to do this the Railway will only become fully operational again on Tuesday.

I really appreciate the effort that individuals and teams have put in to getting the Railway back together, thank you.

The curtailed service will operate in the interim"

    At 1819:

"The P way team and Signalling maintenance have been out all day and have laid the final rail. The Railway is whole again. There will be ballasting tomorrow morning but we will be operating full line again although a speed restriction will apply over the newly laid track"

The Severn Valley Railway has been voted Heritage Site of the Year 2 by BBC Countryfile Magazine!

Brilliant result up against other major entries.

Fabbo news about the Countryfile award, does this mean we get to see Ellie getting all hot and steamy then... Sorry wondered off there! On a slightly different note 13065 has been confirmed for the Mid Hants Autumn gala which has me thinking surely it cant just be going all the way there without any stop offs? Its a rather long journey from Lancashire to Hampshire. Especially when theres a rather nice set of LMS stock it would match... Is there an anouncement due soon? I know we havent got spring gala out the way yet but this has really got me thinking (and a smidge excited!)

I see the passenger numbers were 204.000 seams that the figure is static around that number I am guessing this is related to the local economy and people reduced cash to spend on days out.
I cut down on my visits this year.

There was speculation in SVR News that the apparent slight drop is a statistical one caused by an increase in family passes sold.
