KWVR Overhauls

Discussie in 'Steam Traction' gestart door 61624, 29 mrt 2014.

That's great news. I was up at Haworth and Oxenhope on Monday and it was very picturesque Got some nice shots of engines which are difficult to photograph in the exhibition due to space.

I do wish Steammemories would check his facts. KWVR is running the "Mince Pie Special" service until 4th January and the normal Winter timetable after that. Winter running normally involves one steam hauled train with the DRB or DMU in the relief path. Summer running normally sees 2 steam locos in use.
85, when back, is fully capable of hauling 6 coaches and the coal tank has only been used AFAIK on summer vintage train services. As the coal tank is operated by BLS they have first call on it's services.
Until the Standard 4 and 85 are back there are 5 steam locos available for traffic although 90733 was recently stopped for big end bearing work.
For the record I am not an official spokesman for KWVR but am a volunteer.

  2. Bye bye John I shall as of now stop making any comments on this site. Sick to death of the spelling and grammar police and the idiots like you who simply read the contributions to find fault.

Oh dear! I did not intend to give offence and apologise if offence was taken. You are clearly an enthusiast, as we all are. You write with some apparent authority and knowledge and my sole purpose was to clarify the correct position. I do not read contributions simply to find fault. Like you, I am something of an old fogey but hopefully not an idiot.
Thank you to those who "liked" my posting. It must have been of some help.

75078 has been out on the KWVR main line today on test runs between Oxenhope and Oakworth. I didn't manage to get my camera out before she vanished from my sight but there are excellent pics at http://news.kwvr.co.uk/2015/01/15/75078.150115.

Condensation on the tender as well. Gives that flat greyish look.

The loco and tender await final repainting and lining, which may be why the tender looks odd in the photos. The owners (Standard 4 Preservation Society) have indicated that final paintwork will be completed later in the year, in better weather.
75078 was out again today on a full line loaded test with 5 coaches. I haven't seen photos yet - I saw the test run by chance at Oakworth in the midst of a blizzard this morning - but will post links to pics if they become available.

Standard 4s are cracking engines, 78 looks fanatastic, is there any chance of finding out where she was allocated to?

Yes, all over the Southern together with the others in that number sequence. Popped up almost anywhere and not always on stoppers. I had 75078 on a Weymouth - Eastleigh stopper in mid 66 but also had her with 10 up on a Basingstoke service.

The tender is unlined but painted, it was the condensation on the sides from the cold water in the tank that was causing the difference in look, having spent an hour in top field watching her go up and down, I can assure you it was very chilly! 75078 pulled a five coach train today in a follow up test, I gave it a miss as it was even colder and snow/rain blizzard conditions for most of the day. Here are a couple from yesterday:

Pretty certain that the SR-alocated locos were always black. 75069 was also allocated to the SR all its life and I seem to recall that the green livery it carried during its first stint of SVR operation was non-authentic for that engine.

Absolutely correct; the only green standards on the Southern Region were those inherited from the Western Region at Weymouth and from the S&D. One or two green Standard 5's also arrived at Nine Elms following displacement from other area's of the Western Region.
