Absolutely, I'd love to come and see it in steam. I've been putting off a visit to the G&WR until I know it's ready.

If city of wells is visiting the GWSR I got to admit id make an effort to go visit especially if it's a gala appearance and 35006 is out on show again

Whats 34007 doing about this time? now if a deal could be struck so that in return once 35005 is done, 35006 were to come to visit the MHR, and city of wells happened to be down south, maybe, on a southern tour, shared between the bluebell, swanage and Mid hants, then that may be worth organising, actually if done in 2016/17, and you included taw valley and some of the Swanage based engines a grand gala could be worth doing, to move the engines from Swanage, they have a main line registered 33, so the engines could towed in steam to Alton, then later to Sheffield park

There was a similar conversion about hosting a big Bulleid event in 2017 to mark the end of Southern Steam with a big gathering at Eastleigh. That seems very unlikely now due to the high volume of work the yard has at the moment so a new plan would be needed to mark the historic event. I know Wadebridge is undergoing repair work at the moment and is due to be in steam for the Mid Hants gala in 5 weeks time so she should hopefully be in traffic. The only thing I would say is the Mid Hants is the majority shareholder in Wadebridge but I am not sure on what the situation with 35006 is in terms who actually owns it and can lend it out once its in steam.

I believe ownership of 35006 lies with a kind of shareholders group.

As for possible visits, since Clan Line has usually been elusive for galas, 35006 could prove popular since MNs have been about that much on Heritage Lines, not since 35005 last roamed about anyway.

Of course whether the owning group would be interested in making such journeys with their beloved on low loaders is another matter, though I've heard nothing to suggest they'd be against the idea. And while I'm sure the GWSR will appreciate it being around, I can't imagine they'd desire to utilise it all that intensively, as they've grown accustomed to they're Heavy Freight engines (indeed the vast majority of they're fleet are of freight design!)

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the contract between the 35006 society and the GWSR states it can't be used on any other lines during its first year of steam. It would be a definite crowd drawer for the GWSR.

I'd agree that that would be a good idea Simon, but contracts recently signed such as 7820's have been very flexible right from the beginning. Ad I said, it's now not hoped, but expected that 35006 will be ready pretty soon.

I would have thought if it's close to finishing, plus the prospect of it staring at their next gala no doubt being a tantalising prospect, perhaps the workshop staff might aid in the final run to have it ready for May.

Think that was mentioned earlier in this thread - would fit in with my theory of a gala based around 35006. A gala based around a new home engine wouldn't surprise me - back to black with "new" 7820 last year etc. @Andy B told us to look out for exciting gala news in post #3362 on this thread, although I somehow doubt he'd care to comment more at this time... :)

The only problem i have with City of Wells visiting the GWR, is what additions she might go back with:eek:
Real Southern engines do not have copper caps on their chimneys or brass safety valve covers or narrow fireboxes

I already have the copper bits needed as I believe 35006 is going to come into our nice paint shop to be painted... :Resistanceisfutile:

I am considering bringing in some copper paint and giving the chimney a copper cap on a quiet day, just to stick two fingers up at all the people who take the mick out of the GWR all the time... :D

Keep your copper bobbins away from P&O! :Stop: Some of us don't want everything to follow Swindon's standardisation!! ;)

In any case I'm hopeful these rumours are true, certainly Wells would be a nice choice to have alongside 35006 first runs. One wonders though what other engines they'll have in mind to visit, a certain Greyhound perhaps...?

That would definitely be a good start. In the past we've had 3 guests plus the operating fleet to give 7/8 locos, so perhaps one more too. What Southern locos have been doing the rounds recently? We had Cheltenham a couple of years ago so not likely to be a schools class. Normally I'd guess a loco from a railway we've recently loaned an engine too but that doesn't rule many out! 7820 and 8274 have been to the GCR very recently so perhaps 777, does that do visits?

just looked on the GCR website and it says 777 did a number of visits in the summer of 2013, so it's not a "stay at home" engine.
