Looks like they have a lot of issues to address:

Sounds like maintenance has not been as good as it might have been for a while?

Yes they do, its nothing new. Or rather it is something new, interesting to note its all the newer timbers that are suffering problems. I have great memories of Victory, it has a place in my heart, because one of my uncles was a CPO in charge of the onsite victory crew (it had a small crew aboard at that time) and he had his retirement dinner on board. I was old enough by then to enjoy the pussers rum toast to Her Maj.

The keel issue was mentioned on the BBC news programme last night. Apparently they plan to insert a large quantity of additional supports as the gap between the existing ones is too great.

I remember a report on April 1st many years ago on BBC South Today, when they ran a spoof story about getting HMS Victory into a sea worthy condition, in time for the Trafalgar Commemoration. Loads of people were taken in by it!

Regarding the keel problem, I guess this is a problem of preserving ships in dry dock. Unless the support is adequate, movement issues will persist. I believe similar problems have been detected on both the SS Great Britain and Cutty Sark.
Ships hulls are designed to be kept in water not propped up long term!
