As I've mentioned I haven't had the chance to have a Merchant Navy so for completly selfish reasons I hope that HLF grant comes through! Anything that puts a fire in the firebox of any loco can only be a good thing

I pray we get the grant for the locomotive , tho I fear for the biscuit supply when the apprentices/work experience guys turn up.

Has this not been factored in with your grant? Oh dear!

If we included biscuits and tea costs it would of doubled the cost of the grant to £1.7million.

The Mid Hants website has posted the official update post. Nothing has changed on CanPac since its been written so its bang up to date.

Would love to apply but it doesnt mention if tea and biscuits will be covered by the railway. It could cost me a fortune if not ;)

A certain 'Smithy' would be ideal for this role...... ;)

I should also say work is progressing on the beast but it's nothing to exciting. We are basically scrapping off the rubbish/dirt that's on the frames etc so it can be needled gunned later on. The next big stage is to get the frames off the driving wheels but don't expect that to be done till around Easter.

Is that dependant on the result of the lottery bid in March??

It's not dependent on the lottery bid, we have plenty of jobs / scrapping to do on the locomotive to do. We have to wait for a clear road so we can get under a crane and the Alrington team to have some spare time to carry out the lift for us.

Once Easter is out of the way hopefully we will be successful in our grant application and have lots of young people working on the project (saying young people is odd when I'm only 25 myself) and they can learn and experience the wonders of railway preservation. I know from my own experiences it's something they will enjoy :)

I heard yesterday the group working on 35005 having working groups working up to three times a week at Eastleigh.

The team works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's on the beast. Some members do all 3 days totally 30 hours a week which shows the amazing dedication by some volunteers.

I tend to work one Wednesday every 2/3 weeks depending on my work rota and my wife letting me out to play.

    Good evening

With the Mid Hants gala approaching I thought it would be a perfect chance to do a quick update on CanPac and do a quick plug ;-)

    http://locoyard.com/2015/02/11/simons-journey-into-the-world-of-volunteering-entry-11/

During the gala there will be a CanPac stand in the Ropley education suite if you fancy learning more about our project, fancy finding out joining our wonderful team, help get restoration underway by donating or buying one of our lovely CanPac mugs.
