Would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that meddlin' zoom! ;)

A clear photo shop job Stuart, I recall seeing no arrow on the landscape! Lovely photo though, and it shows just how tight we were with the sun!

If I could supply a link I would. If you are on Facebook then it was posted in the group "steam trains in the uk" by a person names Leander Pomfret?? And believe I can tell you it's no Air Pump, Vac Ejector or blower! I know enough to know that.

Not catching the TPWS in time seems to be a common cause of random stops on tours, perhaps another ?.

Superb day out on the tour yesterday. Shame about the lack of intended traction, but these things happen.

Surprised no one has mentioned anything on here yet, but as we departed Carlisle a gent on the platform appears to stumble then fell between the platform and train just outside our window as we passed. Hopefully he is ok, since seen the video below. Nice to see everyone rushing to help him.

Indeed, illustrates what "stand away from the edge" is for, even at low speed, seen one the other week fall off the platform at Severn Beach because of carelessness, luckily for that guy it was into into the bushes that filly the disused platform.

Good to meet you and your riends, you seemed to be enjoying the day, I'll not mention the copious quantities of alcohol you consumed. Oops ;).

Further to the photo I uploaded earlier, I was challenged to take the wires out. So while not an accurate record of yesterday, the art shown in the photograph shows that there's little standing in the way between 2015 and 1959 in this area, if you angle your lens correctly!

So I give you, the story :

The year is 1959, years before the construction of the M6 through the Lune Gorge, and only the sound of a single Black 5 can be found pounding it's way towards the gruelling ascent to Shap summit.

The driver and fireman have their work cut out, for there is no banker available at Tebay shed, so they attempt to make up as much speed as possible on the level running stretch before the climb North.

    DSC_9802_2PS_sepia31_1200.jpg

Photo from 24th January 2015, in reality is No. 45407. But for the photograph, it has been heavily photoshopped to remove Overhead Wires and Structures, the Class 47 on the rear, the evidence of the M6 motorway and the minor modern alterations to the Black 5 herself.

I saw the aftermath of three of those during my career...not pretty and always fatal. The platform seems to curve away from the running line a little, which probably saved his skin.

If thats not a warning to stay behind the yellow line nothing is...

I bet he hopes his wife doesn't see that video.. it'd be the end of his day trips out if she did.
