    Hello,
Taking look see at GWR 650 on the SVR GWSVRA web site.....
Looks far to good for the general public to use yet would be a shame for it to off limits in some musuem/shed.
Goes for some wagons as well.....

Use it or look at it?

    Nick

WOW, that looks amazing! I think only people with a valid work permit from the SVR and surrounding railways should be allowed to use it. :) I have still never travelled in a genuine GW carriage despite visiting the SVR countless times, they never seem to come out when I'm there - I'm positively sick of the teaks!

I saw this at the behind the scenes day last September, and got talking to those working on it as it approached the finishing line, it really is a credit to those who've toiled & sworn over her - the attention to detail must've given a few nightmares - especially the Art Deco - that was definitely one major one!

    So well done chaps! :)

And FS123..... you can't have too much of the teaks, there aren't that many about - be grateful they exist........ & wait for the Pigeon Van conversion to come into service, you'll drool..... ;)

Quite so, and if you can't wait for the pigeon van conversion, take a trip to the NYMR and sample Gresley BTK 3699.

Magnificent though these vehicles are, they were built to use, and as most of the interior is now of reproduction material with little or no original left. l I don't think we should get too precious about them, the reproduction material that wears out can always be reproduced again!

And must be only involved in restoring wooden bodied coaches as well, as we know how much work goes into doing this.

Have you received a blow to the head? How can any right minded person be sick of them? Teak stock of any origin is wondrous to behold. I think a period of reeducation is needed. :)

I'm now of a certain age that I actually enjoy watching "Bargain Hunt" on BBC and it would seem that, in recent years, Art Deco items have become increasingly fashionable. The Art Deco style is incredibly stark, uncluttered and daring so will definitely attract punters who know what Art Deco is when it hits them. I only wish a 30s rake of GWR coaches could be found on a line near Cheltenham. One day maybe. Well done to the restorers at the SVR.

The good thing for the lads who have restored this beauty is, they have the patterns for the Art Deco lamp shades, which cost an eye watering penny BUT they should be able to recoup that by renting them out to others that will at no doubt at some point need them.......

I'm not the biggest fan of things GWR ( LNER & Teaks is my thing :)) but even I know & can appreciate craftsmanship! ;) and after spending a pleasant time chatting with the two guys who were there and seeing from where they where to where they are now, I doff my hat......... I for one would love to get involved with the LBSCR coaches now in the hands of the MHR! :)

Well, the two NSR 4-wheelers are there to be used, but hopefully not abused. When not in use they can be admired, standing in the museum shed ........ so; bit of both is my answer.

Seeing them will hopefully encourage donations for the other Knotty Coach Trust projects - the Accessible Brake Coach and the first class, no28 - and inspire further restoration work.
