Interesting Al, 34067 Tangmere is showing as replacement engine for this trip. Not sure when she last visited Kings Cross, but 10 hours of running is a great test for her.

 

Anyone know the reason for the switch in locomotive.?

 

I'm guessing that it may be related to the fact that, last Saturday, 60009 was sitting in Crewe Heritage Centre, separated from its tender, with a tarpaulin over the cab.

 

It was reported in a different thread that No 9 had been lifted off her wheels at Crewe recently.

How many tenders will Tangmere have on Saturday? Also what kind of performance can we expect from the bullied pacific?

Out at Kings Cross for this one.. 05:38 off Bedford to get to the Cross on time to film it. Off for Mayflower afterwards too.

 

Wasn't sure whether to put this in Narrow Gauge or not. Those travelling to York on this may wish to know that the Ffestiniog's 'Prince' is booked to be working at the NRM on the 14th, there is also booked steam on the NRM's miniature line. Something to keep you out of the pub for a few minutes BP?

 

If Tangmere is involved thankfully there will be some smoke and drama rolled in the mix somewhere.

 

I don't know what performance you'd get out of a 'bullied' pacific. I suppose it would be a bit cowed, brow-beaten and introverted. However you can expect entertainment with a Bulleid pacific on good form, although with a schedule like that, there won't be much scope for fast running without early arrival at the loops. Having said that, I'm heading down to Peterborough just to get some mileage behind 34067 to 'clear' it for one. Also means I finally get the southbound bit between Colton Junction and Doncaster done by steam before line capacity on the ECML drops the cake and stops the party. Its the one good reason to support HS2...

I think subsidised tea at the NRM and some dinner after a wander round is called for, Mr. P.

Not as smooth as I would have liked ut I had tripod problems and Youtube's usually excellent stabilisation feature seems not to have done its job this time. Now edited to include footage of the return run.
