Makes you wonder if there will be a desire to recreate scenes from the early preservation era in years to come?

Don't think this will ever be back at Bridgnorth to help recreate anything do you? img171.jpg

Ask Roger Scanlon. He had a hand in bringing it to the SVR.

No it never even left the yard at Bridgnorth, it was a somewhat temperamental machine!

It actually clocked up 5 miles in 1975, which is one mile more than 417 Invicta managed in its SVR career!

The departure of 064.305 was described thus in SVR News: "The German Tank posed many problems regarding clearances. The problems stem from the fact that the original measurements provided by the German Railway were incorrect, and the belief that the Severn Valley was built to standard GWR loading gauge also proved to be incorrect."

The real reason it had to go was it's very unpopular habit of leaving it's towel on the best inspection pit

Nice one fellas! I have somthing stirring in the old grey matter about 'gauging issues!' Where did it end up? Was it Nene Valley?

I assume so. It was at the back of the shed last time I visited in 2013 - I've not heard any news of it moving since.

The other industrials on the SVR were ex-Hams Hall Peckett 1738 (now at Titley Junction Station) which saw occasional use as Bewdley yard pilot, and WD 193 'Shropshire' (now at Ribble) which saw more use including hauling the first Santa services single-handed (how times have changed!).

Larger engines that came and went without troubling the scorers include 4141, 78019 and 45699 Galatea.

Most obscure thing to show up in Bridgnorth? Probably an Inter City 125 on an incoming railtour!

A list of former residents and some of the early history of the SVR is among the information on a new Wikimedia site www.svrwiki.com (only started in January but growing daily).
