    Hi,

    I thought it best to start a thread dedicated to all things concerning the Telford Steam Railway. Here is an extract from our website which was a major turning point in our efforts in reaching Ironbridge;

After many years of hard work permission has finally been granted by our landlords, Telford & Wrekin Council, allowing us to run passenger trains north to Lawley common from Easter 2015. The same approval that allows us to open to Lawley has the added benefit of also allowing us to run trains south to Doseley Halt. Once trains are running to Lawley we can concentrate efforts southwards. The scale of this news shouldn’t be under-estimated and is a major turning point in the history of the railway. This is the springboard for our long held ambition of returning trains to Ironbridge. Much remains to be done and we still need volunteers, existing and new, as well as money and materials. If you feel that you can help, either by volunteering or making a cash donation then please do not hesitate.
Now that our succesful Santa season has finished we turn our thoughts again to progressing and finishing the infrastructure works needed to make Lawley operational in time for Easter 2015. As the press release above states we are always in need of that holy trinity of time, money and manpower. If you can help, even if it's a donation for our Lawley fund, then this will be much appreciated. As well as the works for Lawley plans are being drawn up for the progression of our planned carriage shed and further infrastructure works heading south for our Doseley extension.

And here are the team doing the marking out for the platform. The platform is marked out by the wooden posts

Looks good, as with Martin, I also ought to get down and have a look. How long will the running line be after the imminent extensions then?

It will still be an inverted 'Y' formation from Spring Village to Horsehay and will increase from 3/4 mile to just over a full mile making it a total of 4 miles on a round trip. The important bit is the fact that Lawley is our northern terminus and a major milestone. Now the push is to get the other 2/3 rds of a mile to Doseley renewed alongside the building of the aforementioned shed as well as the myriad of other jobs that always crop up in preservation.

Ah I see, I hadn't appreciated the layout of it. Still, 4 miles is pretty good considering.

What is happening regarding GWR Auto Coach no 38?

Fairly recent photos were rather worrying.

The coach is unfortunately still in the same position. This is why we are so focussed on getting our carriage shed progressed as soon as possible. This is why we took the decision to list for sale one of our Mk1 coaches. It isn't really suitable for us and the money realised from its sale will allow the commencement of the shed. The first vehicle into the shed will be the autocoach.

The Telford Steam Railway is pleased to announce the recent award and recognition in the restoration of the resident Class 108 DMU unit belonging to Ian Heighway and Kevin Jones. Further details can be found here on the website Telford Steam Railway

Good progress with a small team todayon Sunday 25th Jan. Another 50 foot of platform edge in place with some final cutting to be done. 116 foot in place, 24 foot to go, then back fill with concrete sleepers and good old earth.

The TSR wikipedia entry points to an eventual southwards extension to Ironbridge. Would this involve an interchange with the SVR , and what's the SVR's views on this possibility, does anyone know?

I'd take Wiki entries with a pinch of salt, not least as the SVR has never altered from the official stance that it has no desire to go north of Bridgnorth.

Pretty much what david1984 has said. There are no plans by the TSR to interchange with anyone, other than the odd bus service, at Ironbridge. If the SVR decide that they wish to push north from Bridgnorth then that is a matter for the SVR. This thread is for enthusiasts to follow the progress of the TSR and we will keep you updated as such.

How do you plan to get to Ironbridge? That would require a reversal at Buildwas.

Further, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of two unconnected heritage railways being so close to each other. At least our friends at GCR and GCR(N) have a intention to eventually unite.

    However, I wish you well.

Just done a quick google maps search, it shows TSR as being 11.8 miles from Bridgnorth station. Which coincidentally is the same distance as Corwen station on LlR is from Bala station on the Bala lake railway.

But Ironbridge is about 8 miles from Bridnorth.
