    Given that the purchase was made at a time when the Trust was based at Haverthwaite perhaps it was the search for a Class 4 / 5 tender loco to support the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway that initiated the purchase; given the length of time that it has been in store the original aim will have changed and I'm sure the Trust has other plans in mind which it will publish at the appropriate time.

    Presumably similar reasoning that led them to buy a GW 56XX!

    I think that by the time they were in a position to buy an engine all the small LMS engines that they would have liked had gone and they therefore went for engines in the best possible condition.
