For goodness sakes. That Manor on the TPO. Although the Ivatt gave her a run for her money. Well done getting such good video and stills at the same time.

Well done to all at GCR for another excellent gala day on Sunday.

Ill admit not my favourite gala (that was 2013 with snow and the blue king!)

The 'open house' loco shed policy was good, please do this again!

First GCR Gala since Autumn 2010, and rather enjoyed it. Was frustrating a number of the sidelights on the Choc/Cream set were stuck shut, meaning the windows steamed up so we couldn't see any of the action going on outside. We therefore transferred onto the Beavertail and got to see everything, but a lack of steam heat on this vehicle meant it was pretty cold. Nothing we could do, the weather was always going to win either way. Still a fantastic event, and the sheer variety of the timetable was fantastic with trains seemingly everywhere.

Only (minor) disappointment was we originally planned to stay for the twilight show, but the disappearing temperatures and muddiness persuaded myself and the group I was with to head home. Is there no way the that the speakers could be linked into a temporary tent erected in the yard with some form of heating at future events to allow people to stay on & enjoy this part of the gala in such conditions? If the practicality of this is not feasible then fair enough, but there was a fair bit of emphasis on this highlight in the lead up and within the event programme, yet in the end no provision had been made for staying in the weather conditions that prevailed.

I was chatting to a guy at Loughborough on the Sunday standing beside the 8F. He couldn't believe that it was normally red as the weathering was so authentic. I think on the Sunday it probably looked its best as some of the paint had started to run here and there an they looked like real rust streaks and the black colour was a little less uniform. A great piece of work by those who did it.

One observation, visitor numbers looked a little down on normal on the Sunday. Perhaps a few folks looked how cold it was going to be an stayed at home ? Still that is winter gala's for you, the weather is rarely great.

Well done all for a great gala as always I will be back next year as I have been every year

I was thinking that when i painted it. A few specs of the red showing through, much more dulled down than normal so it looked almost like rust specs.

Could you use the same technique on more modern Traction?

I've done a few over the last couple of years for a number of charter organisers. If anyone wants anything doing all they have to do is ask.

Forgot to link my second lot of shots from the Saturday of this gala, the weather wasn't too great sadly but I was able to get several dark shots in the very early morning, 29 photos can be found here: http://khardy.zenfolio.com/p129256874
