How many years are you giving the metrobus before it gets binned as not fit for purpose?

The way I see it, whether it's Metrobus, cycleway, footpath, or even a road, at least it is being kept as a transport corridor, which will always offer a glimmer of hope that one day, maybe trains could return.
As soon as you put housing on a formation, forget it, it's lost.

Never understood the Metrobus concept, seems like a halfbaked transport solution that'll be ineffective. Figures I've seen suggest that buses only reduce traffic by between 2%-4% compared to over 20% by trams...never mind huh!

It's a bit of a quandary. Conversion to a tram route or branch line would likely also have resulted in the end of steam services on the BHR. As it is, if the current Metrobus route goes ahead, the BHR gets to keep the riverside line without having it as a shared bus/train route (as the buses will run mainly on the road) and the minimum amount of track is lost.

All of this would likely be a different story if the bridge hadn't been in such a state of disrepair in the 1990s. Steam would likely have continued over the river to Ashton Junction (Soon to gain a station again as the Portishead line gets passenger trains once more)
The problem is, steam operation couldn't have paid for the repairs to the bridge.

Just picked up the latest Steam Railway and looking at the locos the railway is planning on getting in throughout the year it looks like I'll be making a few trips down to the harbour this year! Very much looking forward to seeing everything!

I'm thinking of visiting the BHR. If I've understood correctly it's Kilmersdon in use this weekend and both Kilmersdon & Teddy at the end of the month?

I hadn't appreciated the redevelopment around the busway. The yard at Ashton meadows saw the track lifted in 2001 - commensurate with the track laying works Parson St Jn to Pill/Portbury - and that's when Ashton Jn was removed.

Hi Paul - best place to check for operating days is the M Shed website:
    http://www.bristolmuseums.org.uk/m-shed/whats-on/train-rides/

I believe that there will be a crossover weekend with both Pecketts in operation, on the same day as the photo charter (20th June)
