Hot on the heels of SD, RTC has published its programme for the rest of the year. The Christmas programme looks prety similar to 2014, including the Sherborne carols that ran for the first time last year.

Another one has sneaked into the programme for July- 'The Pilgrim Fathers' to Skegness. If it wasn't mid-week and in steam ban territory, I'd probably book, as I've yet to do PBO-SLE-CLE. Will decide closer to the time.

Eticket for 'The Easterling' has arrived. 09:18 ex-KGX; 10:10 ex-SVG. Slightly later return times: 21:01 SVG; 21:53 KGX. Slightly more sensible time for the 3.5 hour drive down from York after 'The Hadrian'.

Have you noticed the Manchester-Sheffield-Bridlington-Scarborough-York-Sheffield-Manchester runs on 9 and 30 May? Three hours in Scarborough. Schedule allows ten minutes from Manchester Piccadilly to Romiley--- that I must see! Quite a sensible itinerary though.

The Dartmouth Express scheduled for 18th April has now been postponed to 15th May due to "operational reasons".

According to the latest Steam Railway magazine, they are co-promoting this tour with RTC, a special stop will be made at Boston for a civic welcome for the B1, and the also included is the opportunity to spend time at a brewery visitor centre at Wainfleet.

I'm tempted having looked at the route on the map. Mid-week is a bit of an issue, so it depends on how well things are going work-wise.

It looks like that the RTC Website has been modified, but instead of the original having all of the UK Day trips, UK Tours and World Tours separately on one page throughout the year, there are now loads of pages to scroll through. Happily, to make the search easier, you can search for the tour you're most interested in.

Is this a case of it wasn't broke but we are still going to fix it? I prefer to be able to look at the tour list, select a tour and date and go directly to the details rather than scroll through various pages until I get to the one I want.

Agree, the A la Carte format so to speak was a lot better. The bigger question is, will the accuracy of the information be more reliable ? The presentation didn't need improvement.

That is the key question. It would be ridiculous if someone were paid to smarten up the website layout if the information on it continued to appear to be authoritative when actually it was only speculative.

If you use the search facility to show all UK Day Trips for the whole year, it show them all on a single page.

Hod did you get the site to do that? I just hit search and yes, I got the whole year but with thumbnails in date order to scroll down, not the simple list that was on the old site. That part of the site wasn't broken so why fix it??????? or is it a Chrome thing?

Looks like the main change is to bring it up to date and allow for adapting to all device sizes (mobiles and tablets), which the old site did not do.

IMO the old site looked pretty dated and the new one has a far bigger impact and is visually more appealing to navigate through.

Ok, the listing of all UK day trips was quick and easy for someone who knows exactly what they want to go for, but there is the factor of "selling" here, which a thumbnail, short description, date etc being included is a much more informative experience for the average customer RTC will be targeting.

Couldn't agree with you more! To be honest it's pointless to modify the website if their was no criticism about it in the first place, plus there was no issues in terms of booking day trips i've been on in the past including The Royal Duchy and The Weymouth Seaside Express. I definitely prefer the older site than the modified one.

Can't please everybody, so pointless to try. Its freshened-up the image somewhat, and looks a bit more 'bells and whistles', so they are merely moving with the times. Now to book something on it to see if that process has changed.

On the news page it reports that The Dartmouth Express has been postponed to 15th May but on the tours page it has still been put up as operating on 18th April.
