Now reported via NYMR Unofficial Forum that the single Grosmont - Whitby - Grosmont down for D7628 will instead be steam (probably 76079).

We've all heard the excuse of "leaves on the line" and "wrong kind of snow" for late running trains. If what I hear is true, the NYMR now has one to beat all. "The Yorkshire Pudding batter went wrong and we had to wait for more ingredients.":)
Apart from that, it was a good day.

One or two picture - taken on a BlackBerry 'Phone due to battery failure on the camera, I am afraid, of today. NYMR Managing Director Philip Benham, BBC Look North Anchor Harry Gration and the train leaving Whitby on the return.

Question - how many heritage lines can call on the locos that hauled the official closure train to run again today? (There is at least one other, even on Standard Gauge!)

Renumbered 32678 by British Railways, she hauled the final passenger train on the KESR in 1954 with classmate No. 32655 Stepney. She returned to Hayling Island in 1958 and remained there until 1963 when she moved to Brighton ending her working career in 1964 as a coal stage pilot. In service, she covered 1,411,436 miles. She was sold to Billy Butlin and displayed at his Minehead holiday camp until she was moved to the West Somerset Railway. In 1998, she returned to the KESR and returned to service in May 1999.

That makes two then! I am told that the Dart Valley is in the same position - however, the loco in question - 4555 - worked the last train on what is now the South Devon Railway but is now based on the Paignton and Dartmouth Railway. Nevertheless, it still exists!

I seem to recall that 41313 worked over the Bluebell on the last day of normal service before the ASLEF strike in 1955 - or have I imagined this? I think there was a photo of it at Sheffield Park in The Railway Magazine of that time.

Not too sure Stephen on that....it may have worked the last train in 1958?
Fifty years ago, on Friday 7th September 1962, British Railways ran the last goods train on the Totnes to Ashburton branch, after which services were withdrawn.
Passenger services had been withdrawn in 1958. The following day, Saturday 8th September 1962, the Plymouth Railway Circle ran a brake van special from Totnes Quay to Ashburton, worked throughout by 2–6–2T No 4567.

I would suspect there will be a few NG railways in Wales that could do similar too..FR,WLLR,TR and definitely VOR although they would have to complete the No7 jigsaw first.
