Progressive myopia, you can get spectacles that will help to a degree. You could go to the East Lanc's this weekend and see some proper paraffin cans, diesel weekend, if you feel inclined!

Oh don't get me wrong, I love a good 37! I just quite like the front of the 68s - I think the 70s are a bit ugly though..

However I do love the fact that as a 00 modeller of the present day I can have it all! Now if Hornby would update the coronation model so I have something to re-do as 46233...!

Still trying to make up my mind regarding the looks of a 68 but impressed by the performance; went like the proverbial off a hot shovel out of Euston.

Quite agree, checked a few 1/4 mile times along the Trent Valley, rock steady on 9 seconds, only thing wrong with the 68's performance was it's inability to heat the train!....We could have done with that hot shovel in the carriage, it was quite parky until 46233 came on at Carnforth.

After just witnessing, Leander's, storming southbound run up, Shap, I really do feel for the passengers of The WCME, as Lea der was certainily giving it some & on the same section of line as the Scot set fire to ! Hopefully some rain will fall soon in the fells, as its bone dry up there at the moment.

Your not wrong there, very annoying. To have a 400 mile round trip to be stood under clear blue skies, and to come away with the highlight of the day being the beef lasagne at Tebay Services, today probably wasn't worth the effort !!! ;)

What happened to the spark arrestor tests of the past. Years ago, and I travelled on one at night out of Didcot, locomotives were worked hard on a thin fire, any spark throwing was noted. On the run I was on (sorry but can't remember the loco) the test was successful and I suspect it was not responsible for any future lineside fires. Back to today and the lineside fire at Tebay. It is March not July and these things should not be happening.

But sadly when it stays dry for a number of days and the stiff wind blows the terrain soon dries out and the inevitable will happen whether its March or July.
