No I do not currently volunteer
This may have been true in the 1920s but by 1948 not so there had been a need for design changes and adapting to new technologies electric and Diesel traction

indeed...most LMS locos seem to have little connection to the MR/LNWR heritage.

MR/LNWR heritage? Isn't that almost like saying Manchester United/Manchester City heritage?

Well out of the Big Four the LMS tended to have the most dull looking designs (perhaps that will push it? :p)

If you could get a good look they are probably all different. Problem is, they are inevitably shrouded in a cloud of steam from a stuck drain cock, so no-one has ever been able to get a good look and confirm that hypothesis...

I suspect if you want to troll the LMS boys then a thread entitled GWR 4-6-0s is not ideal. But isn't it a bit like shooting fish in a barrel? Especially if we are talking about pre Stanier days?

GWR fans only get het up when people tease about all their designs being the same, because they know it's got a lot of truth.

LMS fans know our 4-6-0s are all completely distinct, i.e. red ones, black ones, parallel boiler ones, big ass parallel boiler ones, big ass taper boiler ones, various old ones.

That's why the LMS never needed a classification system which actually distinguished between them...

We won't go into the niceties of the big ass taper boiler ones.

As to the argument that later on some lunatic painted lots of them GWR green, clearly that does not deserve a response.

    (I like GWR locos too...)
