I'm looking for info on the first 9F used regularly as a Lickey Banker (next model project after the Tyne Dock 9F :) )
Was the headlight powered by a turbo generator, or was it batteries? Where was either located on the loco?
Have found a few photos but nothing too clear.
    Appreciate any info, thanks.

The turbo generator was mounted on the outside of the LH (Driver's side) frame below the cab. The NRM have two aperture cards of SL/DE 22280 Arrangement of Headlamp.

Wasn't the light & TA from "Big Emma/Bertha" transferred to the 9F?

Further to the above; 92079s tender seems to have had a section cut out of the forward side sheet on the drivers side, apparently to allow coaling at Bromsgrove, can anyone provide any info on this?

92079 was initially paired with a BR1C tender. When it was reallocated to Bromsgrove for the banking job, the BR1C was swopped for a BR1G tender. As you say, the cut-out was done to make life a lot easier coaling up at the coal stage at Bromsgrove.

On page 59 of "Life on the Lickey" by the late Pat Wallace there is an account of 58100's last journey to Derby on 7th May 1956. The crew related that at Derby they threw out the fire on 58100 and left the loco stabled behind 92079 so that the headlight and generator could be transferred to 92079. They comment that the tender cut-out had already been done, so there was just the generator/headlight swap to allow 92079 to go to Bromsgrove for banking duties.
The same book has a photo opposite page 33 showing 92079 banking a train, and you can see the tender cut-out, and of course the headlight.

Thanks for the recommendation, the photos will be very useful and it was a pretty good read too :) I didn't realise that our 37 at Llangollen was one of the first group of diesel Lickey Bankers.
Must have been some very cultured staff there to have nicknamed GWR 5226 'Polyphemus' :)

Interesting - not sure of the dates of the two photos above.... but in the photo without the headlight - the vacuum ejector has a WR anti-forestalling valve and in the photo with the headlight it is without....
