Without knowing who the poster is and what their sources are, we have no way of knowing whether there's any truth in this, or it's just another example of what happens on the Internet in the absence of reliable information.

It was a poster called gearjammer, who also posts on here, but who hasn't been seen on here in over a week.

At this stage there are a lot of people who say they have inside information, but we don't know how much is true. So until WCRC make an announcement that they have sent the paper work to NR, we don't know if this is true, and the ORR will put out a press announcement if they are pulling the WCRC licence. We will have to wait until information comes out from a reliable source :Morewaitingisrequired:

    Moderator Note:

Just read the above posts and information about the alleged author of the post on WNXX. Please DO NOT continue debate about this piece of 'news' here. By all means search the ORR site or contact them if you wish but we do not want pages of chatter on NP without anything verifiable. (Just trying to avoid locking this thread)

    Thanks

Yes, they are locking every thread that is created mentioning this WRCR business. Several have been started up since the original one was locked.

Just the big rumour mill doing its speculative mumblings. That said, I have read on some National Preservation postings that the ORR are a very tough organisation who have teeth!

Regarding what is and isn't (yet) in the public domain it might be worth noting this recent quote from the Railway Herald Facebook page, "ORR confirms that it has started the formal process to consider revoking the Safety Certificate of WCRC with a 28 day consultation period with the industry."

I would suggest that in much the same way as Network Rail shared the initial letter via a press release we may have to hope ORR to do the same if any such communication has been sent

RAIL Magazine carried the same story on Friday 10th April (it's on their web site with a link to the story from the home page, IIRC), and the Sunday Telegraph article on Sun 12th discusses it. It looks like ORR had a meeting at Carnforth on Fri 10th when they told WCRC they were starting formal proceedings to revoke the licence.

We don't know whether the 28 day consultation has been triggered by ORR yet, do we? I've searched the ORR web site and there's no public statement either way, so I presume that either they have not yet made a decision whether to proceed (perhaps they're studying WCRC's reply to NR?) or else consultation has started and it's confidential within NR, the TOCs and FOCs.

Have I got that right, or have I misunderstood some part?

A polite message to say that the above two posts are starting to recycle old news again.

I think that's standard practice when there's a significant change to the web of contracts holding the railways together. Remember when NR wanted to remove the triangle in the engineering yards at York? Not quite the same circumstances, I know, but I think it's the way they work.

Needs sorting asap or get a new operator to take over.
It must be costing firms affected by this company's antics a lot of money now,
even heritage lines not getting their hire Locos delivered by rail, and they are not at fault,
I read the Scotish government (or whatever they are called) have taken away the upcoming contract to run steam trains in Scotland from WCRC and have appointed DB instead due to the ongoing list of "alleged" problems and instances with West Coast.
    Report comes from Rail.

Again, we'll just have to wait and see; I'm sure the ORR will publicise their intentions when there is something to say. GBVIII is the test-case, and I believe that some sort of letter regarding the operation will be sent sometime this week.
