Footplate crew outfit

Can someone who has used the NYMR site tell which is the correct phone mumber, as the one supplied in the e-mail to confirm a purchase is different to the one at the bottom of the link on the previous page #-o

I volunteer at 2 steam railways both narrow gauge so nice small hot cabs, now i want to start wearing a waistcoat instead of full bib and brace. So where is the best place to get a goood footplate waistcoat and then what about footplate trousers and jacket?

Ebay thats where i get all mine from!!! Ok they may not be to all tastes but we are in the entertainment business!

 

Do your prep in your flat cap and it would soon become waterproof and then you'd only need one cap for everything!

I would start going to "Age Concern" or "Sue Ryder" or any of the other high street charity shops, there is bound to be something that would satisfy your needs! =D>

George at ASDA do them for about £4, otherwise any local gents outfitter for less than a tenner. Much mre comfortable than a greasetop, just be careful at speed or in high winds as they tend to blow off.

 

i agree flat caps are easier to wear and More comfortable i used to Ware one every day when i was younger until i lost it a few weeks ago so ill be buying a new one

I remember that getting three sets of footplate crews and three guards all looking for your cap on Tenterden Bank as they all sailed past

 

I could do with a good leather footplate bag does anyone know if they are available anywhere else but Mr Beesley as £42 does seem a bit dear.

I use Yarmo clothing and find it very good indeed.

 

I keep saying this...you get what you pay for!!!

How many times have you paid £42 (or more) for a pair of trainers? Those leather drivers bags last for decades!!! Wish we still got them for work.

Maybe so but in three decades time I will be too old to need one any more!!!!

And by the way I have some less than £10 trainers that I have had for about ten years, a high price does not always mean quality! Longevity of items is down to the way they are looked after or mistreated. For example the boots I use on footplate duties are nearly 20 years old and get cleaned and polished after every turn, and were less than £20 when new, and are still in good condition. I could have paid a lot more for a well known brand that would not have been any better.

All I want to know is are leather bags available elswhere at a lower price.

 

Actually, a decent pair of comfortable footplate boots is a great investment. There's not much worse than spending a long hard shift on the footplate with boots that don't offer decent comfort.
